What happens when following orders conflicts with doing what’s right?
In this episode of Aegis After Action, I share the story of the USCGC Vigilant and the Cold War incident that reshaped Coast Guard policy, challenged leaders at every level, and became a lasting lesson in moral courage, accountability, and leadership under pressure. This isn’t just history—it’s a reminder that the hardest leadership decisions often define both individuals and institutions.

While I was operating a jet drive Avon while on active duty when a bad decision found me drowning. I had to learn to be still and stop fighting against the current.

Why am I still here?
It’s a question many veterans and first responders quietly ask themselves after the mission ends.
After the deployments.
After the calls.
After the trauma.
After losing friends, purpose, identity, or the version of yourself you once knew.
In this episode of Aegis After Action, we talk honestly about survivor’s guilt, PTSD, purpose after service, and the struggle to keep moving forward when life feels heavy.
This conversation is for:
🇺🇸 Veterans
🚔 Law Enforcement
🚒 Firefighters
🚑 EMS & Dispatch
🛡️ First Responders
👨👩👧👦 Families carrying the weight beside them
You are not weak for asking hard questions.
You are not broken for struggling.
And you are not alone.
At Aegis After Action, our mission is to create real conversations, real support, and real brotherhood for those navigating life during and after service.

The helicopter changed battlefield survival forever. 🇺🇸
Before MEDEVAC helicopters, wounded service members often died before reaching medical care. During Korea and Vietnam, rapid helicopter evacuations dramatically increased survival rates and transformed combat medicine.
The result?
More warriors came home alive — but many returned with life-changing injuries, PTSD, amputations, traumatic brain injuries, and invisible wounds.
Modern medicine didn’t create more disabled veterans.
It helped more veterans survive.
That’s why support, brotherhood, and mental health awareness matter now more than ever.
