On our mid month episode, we continue to celebrate films directed by female directors with 2008's The Hurt Locker. Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win an Oscar for best director for this low budget, gritty, war film. Starring Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackey of future Marvel fame, this film takes you to the heart of the U.S. conflict with Iraq through an unflinching look at life with bomb squad.

We continue our month of films by female directors, in honor of Women's History Month, by covering one of the most misogynistic films ever made. American Psycho was based on a novel by openly gay Bret Easton Ellis and directed by Mary Harron, so it shouldn't feel like the homophobic, women murdering film that it is. But that's apart of it's charm. The film was divisive in 2000 and held in much higher regard now. This mind bending slasher takes you inside the head of a man who is Wall Street by day, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre by night.

Our penultimate film review brings us to the toughest to watch film we've covered yet. 2013's 12 Years a Slave is a masterpiece, but shows a side of American history that all American's would rather forget. It's simultaneously moving, brutal, inspirational, and horrifying. Director Steve McQueen takes you through the forgotten journey of a free man kidnapped and placed in chattel slavery, and he doesn't shy away from the ugly.
