    The IHS Markit Russia Manufacturing PMI declined to 48.9 in September 2020 from 51.1 in the previous month. The renewed contraction as driven by a drop in new orders, as client demand weakened. The rate of contraction was solid overall and the fastest since June. Meantime, output increased to the second fastest since April 2019, as firms resumed operations following the loosening of restriction measures.

  • UN Needs Immediate Infusion Of $15 Bn For Global Vaccine Fund
    UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday called for an immediate infusion of $15 billion to a global pool for the procurement and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines at a virtual summit hosted by the world body.
    Notable new pledges included an additional 100 million euros ($117 million) by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, beyond the 675 million euros Germany has already committed.

  • South Africa Opens Borders To African Countries
    South Africa has opened its borders to travellers from all African countries, but has retained restrictions against countries with higher coronavirus infection rates including the UK, the US and Russia.
    The country will from Thursday reopen some land borders and its three main airports in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
    The Foreign Minister, Naledi Pandor, said all arriving travellers must produce a Covid-19 testing certificate from their countries and will be screened on arrival.
