  • P&ID Investigation Shows That $301m Was Used For Under-Hand Dealings
    The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has said that ongoing investigation has revealed that about $301 million was given as under-hand dealings to some persons in a bid to hide the illegality of the Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID) gas supply and processing deal.
    Mr Malami stated that the latest ruling of a court in the United Kingdom, overturning a $10 billion judgement awarded against it, is a result of the progress made from the investigation.

    Nigerian Lawmakers will by June 2021 be ready with the amended 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for onward transmission to the President for his assent.
    A programme of action prepared by the 58-man Senate Committee on Constitution Review headed by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, outlined the activities of the National Assembly Joint committee culminating in the passage of the amendments to the constitution by the two chambers by the middle of 2021.

    President Muhammadu Buhari is set to attend the Fifty-Seventh Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
    A statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the President will leave Abuja on Monday for Niamey, Niger Republic where he is to participate in the summit.

  • Nigeria’s COVID-19 Cases Rises To 55,005
    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed 100 new cases of coronavirus in the country. This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections recorded in the country so far to 55,005.
    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in a late tweet on its official handle released on Sunday showed that the new cases were reported in 10 States, with Lagos recording thirty-nine cases, the FCT had twenty-two, Kaduna had nineteen cases and Oyo had seven cases.
    A total of 43,013 persons have recovered from the virus while the death toll now stands at 1,057.

On the economic data front, latest PMI figures showed the construction sector in the Eurozone contracted at the sharpest rate in three months in August, while in Germany shrank at the softest pace in the current six-month sequence of contraction and in Italy expanded for the fourth month in a row.

  • An oil futures contract expiring Tuesday went negative in bizarre move showing a demand collapse
    WTI futures reversed earlier losses to trade near 1% higher around $41.65 a barrel on Friday, as investors try to shrug off falling demand and oversupply concerns. A rebound in investors' mood after a tech-rout plunge on Wall Street the day before and a weaker dollar also supported oil prices. Meanwhile, investors await the US payrolls report later in the day for a clearer picture of the job market and the pace of the American economic recovery. On the week however, WTI lost near 3% so far and is on track to record the biggest weekly decline since June.
