  • Nigeria Records 239 New Cases Of COVID-19
    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said Nigeria on Tuesday recorded 239 new cases of the novel coronavirus.
    The health agency revealed this in a late-night tweet.
    The country now has a total of 54,247 confirmed cases, with 42,010 persons discharged and 1,023 deaths.
    Plateau reported the highest number of cases with 116 while the Federal Capital Territory ranked second with 33 new infections.

  • South Africa's Trade Surplus Narrows To $2.24 Bln In July
    Data from the revenue service on Monday showed that South Africa’s trade balance recorded a surplus of 37.42 billion rand ($2.24 billion) in July from a revised surplus of 45.73 billion rand in June.
    The South African Revenue Service said Exports rose 6.1% on a month-on-month basis to 122.49 billion rand, while imports were up 22.1% to 85.07 billion rand.

  • Botswana To Add 600 MW Of Coal-Fired And Solar Power By 2026
    The minerals and energy minister on Monday said Botswana plans to add more 600 megawatts (MW) of solar and coal-fired power in the next six years as the country looks to wean itself off imports while also eyeing power exports.
    Botswana currently has national demand of 600 MW, but recurring breakdowns at one of its main power stations have left the country reliant on imports and diesel generators to cover shortfalls.
    Mines minister Lefoko Moagi said procurement for an additional 200 MW solar plant will start early next year , with completion expected in 2026, while a 10 MW coal-bed methane extraction plant is expected to be operational by the year 2025.
