Twitter says it had suspended the account of controversial US lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, a staunch supporter of former Republican President Donald Trump, for a week over a “misleading” tweet on coronavirus vaccines.
The tweet says the US Food and Drug Administration should not give final approval to anti-coronavirus vaccines, with Greene saying they were “failing” and did not curb the spread of the virus.
Twitter labelled the message misleading and suggested that users consult the information provided by US health authorities about vaccines and mask-wearing.
The platform’s rules on Covid misinformation state that a seven-day suspension comes with a fourth violation of the site’s terms of use.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed issued a call for all eligible civilians to join the armed forces as fighting rages in multiple regions of Africa’s second-most populous nation.
Abiy’s office in a statement says now is the right time for all capable Ethiopians who are of age to join the Defense Forces, Special Forces and militias and show their patriotism.

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa is due to appear on Wednesday morning before the country's corruption inquiry.
It was set up to investigate allegations that his predecessor Jacob Zuma - during his term in office - allowed the wealthy Gupta family to plunder state resources and to influence policy and cabinet appointments.
The corruption is estimated to have cost South Africa $81bn in public funds and lost opportunities.
He has been called to answer questions on what the party knew, if anything, about the alleged misconduct and if they did anything to try to stop it.

The federal government says it is targeting to commence local manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccines in the next 12 months.
The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, says the agency has commenced clinical trials on three local herbal medicinal products for the treatment of the virus.
Adeyeye says the government was concerned about the absence of medicine security and its implications for the healthcare needs of the people.
She says the federal government was particularly worried about current challenges posed by an inadequate supply of the vaccines to take care of millions of Nigerians, adding that the government was working diligently to start local manufacturing of the vaccine.

The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has reiterated the need for Nigeria to diversify its economy from crude oil, noting that the nation could earn as much as $20bn annually from the cultivation and production of oil palm.
Obaseki, says the decline in prices of crude oil and the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance and urgency to diversify the country’s economy, creating an alternative source of revenue.
The governor says his government was investing hugely in the agricultural sector to boost the state’s economy, tackle food insecurity and create wealth for Edo citizens.
He noted that to effectively and efficiently encourage investors, the state launched the Edo State Oil Palm Programme in partnership with other private sector stakeholders including the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has called on state governments and citizens to take more proactive steps to combat the outbreak of cholera across states in Nigeria.
The agency made the appeal in a report where it stated that there have been 31,425 suspected cases of cholera and 816 deaths reported from 22 states and the FCT, between January 1 and August 1, 2021.
The NCDC says the recent outbreak has been exacerbated by poor access to clean water, open defecation, poor sanitation, and hygiene.
The NCDC says it activated the National Cholera Emergency Operations Centre on June 22 and has deployed rapid response teams to support the most affected states, it warned that those actions won’t be enough.

Amazon.com Inc on Tuesday says it would pay customers who suffer injuries or property damage from defective goods others sell on its U.S. platform, in a new policy that could reduce litigation.
Amazon maintains that sellers themselves are responsible, and most courts have ruled in its favour.
A state appellate court in California, however, last year said it could be liable for goods it stores and ships via its Fulfillment by Amazon program.
The company says effective Sept. 1, Amazon will pay valid claims of up to $1,000, which make up more than 80% of injury and damage cases on its platform, at no cost to sellers.

The Senate moved toward the final passage of a bipartisan $1 trillion infrastructure package, after clearing the last significant procedural hurdles for the legislation over the weekend.
The legislation is expected to pass, after nearly 70 senators voted to advance it late Sunday night. It is the product of weeks of intense negotiations, largely led by White House officials and a core group of 10 Republican and Democratic senators.
Senator Bill Hagerty, Republican of Tennessee, held up a move to expedite the bill over the weekend, largely to protest how it is paid for.
Senators remained hopeful that on Monday they would reach an agreement on postponing the vote until Tuesday at a reasonable, daylight hour, rather than taking a vote in the early morning hours.

Mozambique's president has called for newly stationed multi-national troops to act with harmony and respect for human life as they prepare to serve in the troubled province of Cabo Delgado.
The mission is funded by the southern African regional bloc, Sadc, with a budget of $12m and renewable on a month-by-month basis.
More than 3,000 people have been killed and 820,000 displaced since the Islamist insurgency in Cabo Delgado began in 2017.
Rwandan and Mozambican troops said they recaptured the rebels' stronghold of Mocímboa da Praia.
Mozambique's President Felipe Nyusi urged the troops to strengthen their relations with the populations through humanitarian aid, whenever possible.
