  • Innovation Happens When There Is Curiosity, Creed And Need - Erika Wiese
    We are what we think. What we think is determined by our ability to learn; and the basis for learning is established in our first 1,000 days of life. It is during those early years that we lay the foundation for endless possibilities.
    Erika is a Portfolio Manager at Innovation Edge, a key part of her role is challenging investees to apply their skills to a space that is often unfamiliar to them. This involves helping them to re- imagine their ideas to solve challenges that they did not necessarily set out to solve. This is frequently where the real innovation happens.

  • Tourism Industry in Kenya - Identifying Key Trend in Nairobi
    Tourism is the second largest contributor of FDI after Agriculture;
    Kenya’s economy will grow at a healthy pace in 2017. The economy is supported by a strong rebound in exports and steady (though somewhat slower) gains in private consumption. The slow growth in credit – which stems from the government’s decision to cap interest rates – curbs business investment. Uncertainty about the coming presidential election also dampens investor sentiment. Growth of real GDP will gradually rise, reaching 6.5% per year in the medium term. To fully benefit from the region´s tourism potential governments and stakeholders should work together to address issues such as infrastructure, security and sustainability by integrating the right policies and regulations.

  • Tourism Industry in Nigeria - Identifying Key Trends in Lagos City
    In this episode, we will be focusing in Lagos, Nigeria. Sub-Saharan African tourism has grown by an average of 4.3% per year since 2008, outpacing the global average of 3.2%, this growth is expected to continue reaching over 45 million arrivals by 2018. The Increased Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), new trade partnerships, access to international capital and rise of the middle classes will help the continent live up to its tourism potential. However, governments and stakeholders need to develop the right strategies and regulations to maximise the benefits of tourism. Huge opportunities for tourism development exist in sub-Saharan Africa, with international arrivals expected to reach over 45 million visitors by 2018, this will be driven by strong economic growth and increased flight capacity.
