  • After Hours AM Haunting of the Hinsdale House with guests Nick Groff, Tim Shaw & Dan Klaes
On this darkly haunting episode of After Hours AM/America’s Most Haunted Radio — we excavate western New York’s notorious Hinsdale House, recently featured on Nick Groff’s Paranormal Lockdown, with owner and paranormal investigator Dan Klaes, and veteran investigator and para-personality Tim Shaw. Dan and Tim will be joining us in hour2 – in hour1 Joel and Eric will reveal the week’s mind-melting paranormal news and banter pleasingly.
    Hinsdale House History
The Dandy family moved into the century-old farm house in Hinsdale, New York, in the early 1970s, thinking they had finally found their dream home. Within days they began to experience unexplained activity that continued to grow worse as time went on. The family received mysterious phone calls and experienced a variety of poltergeist activity. Sometimes they would even hear chanting from the nearby woods.
At first shrugging the activity off, the Dandy family then began seeing full-body apparitions of woman in white, bizarre animal-human hybrids, even what they believed could be demonic, non-human entities.
One night the family noticed a group of strange faces staring in their windows. However, when Mr. Dandy ran outside to chase away the trespassers, the faces reversed and were then peering back at him from the inside of the house.
Then the haunting began to turn violent: objects levitated around the house, a lamp from the living room threw itself at one of the Dandy daughters. The last straw came when Mr. Dandy experienced a state of amnesia, unable to remember some of the most frightening incidents. At this point an exorcist named Father Alphonsus, a priest from St. Bonaventure University, was called in to exorcise the home while the family and a team paranormal researchers were present. The paranormal activity became the strongest it had ever been. Lights in the house turned on and off, unexplainable banging emanated from the walls, and a palpable sense of evil permeated the home.
Unfortunately, the exorcism didn’t work, and after a few days of calm in the house, the activity ramped up again, finally forcing the Dandy family to move. Clara Miller-Dandy wrote the book Echoes of a Haunting in 2000, which detailed her family’s terrifying experiences living in the home from July, 1973 to October, 1974.
    Hinsdale House window
Today the house is owned, maintained, and operated by local paranormal investigator Dan Klaes in order to preserve the haunted building for research purposes. The Hinsdale House was brought to the public’s attention in the fifth episode of Paranormal Lockdown, which saw Nick Groff and Katrina Weidman spend 72 hours living in and investigating the notorious location. During their investigation, the seasoned investigators experienced a range of activity associated with the house, including chanting, banging, and an overwhelming sense of confusion.
Daniel Klaes’ interest in the paranormal spans his entire life, stemming from his experiences living in a haunted house. These encounters with unusual phenomena pushed theDan Klaes Hinsdale House boundaries of his own belief system. In fact, Dan later purchased his family’s home and has grown comfortable with his unseen guests. Klaes co-founded the Greater Western New York Paranormal Society, which has tackled some of the most challenging paranormal cases in the region. Dan is also a producer of the Behind the Shadows documentary series that can be viewed internationally on the Roku station Paranormal Reality TV. He is also a radio host of Phenomena Encountered on the Crossroads Radio Network, a sought after speaker, and author, having penned Hinsdale House, An American Haunting.
In June of 2015, Dan realized a lifelong dream. The infamous Hinsdale House, site of the infestation and structural exorcism, became available for purchase and wasting no time, he made an offer that was accepted. Klaes immediately began renovations to stabilize the house, which continue to this day. Shortly af(continued)

Joe would later be trained by Keith Johnson, formerly of TAPS and the SyFy’s Ghost Hunters, where he learned of the paranormal on a scientific level. In 2005, he joined New England Anomalies Research. In 2006, Joe co-founded the Rhode Island Demonic Disturbance Investigation Association, otherwise known as RIDDIA. Both he and co-founder, Michael Piccerelli, were given the opportunity to host Strange Encounters on WCAN Radio, a weekly show dedicated to the supernatural. The series gained in popularity and the two-man crew moved on to Haunted Voices Radio, a 24-hour non profit network educating the community and fostering paranormal awareness.

  • After Hours AM Author of "Ghostly Encounters: The Hauntings of Everyday Life" Dennis Waskul
In this revelatory episode of After Hours AM/America’s Most Haunted Radio — with hosts Joel Sturgis and Eric Olsen — we speak with sociologist and author Ghostly Encounters: The Hauntings of Everyday Life Dennis Waskul about the meaning and consequences of paranormal experiences as detailed in his fascinating new book, Ghostly Encounters. Dennis will join us in hour2 – in hour1 we will cover the week’s jaw-dropping paranormal news, and Sweetheart of the Great Northern Woods, Kirsten Klang, will read your true ghost stories.
Ghostly Encounters Dennis WaskulDennis Waskul, with able assistance from Michele Waskul, is author of Ghostly Encounters: The Hauntings of Everyday Life (Temple UniversityPress, 2016). Based on two years of fieldwork and interviews with 71 heartland Americans, the Waskuls’ book is a reflexive ethnography that examines how people experience ghosts and hauntings in everyday life. Through these stories, Ghostly Encounters seeks to understand the persistence of inexplicable experiences and beliefs in ghosts in an age of reason, science, and technology; and how those beliefs and experiences both reflect and serve important social and cultural functions.
In five compact, intellectually rigorous but eminently readable chapters, the Waskuls explore how uncanny happenings become interpreted as ghosts, and the reasons people struggle with or against a will to believe. They classify the variety and character of hauntings and ghostly encounters (apparitions, phantasms, wraiths, poltergeists, specters, and phantoms), outcomes of people telling haunted legends, and the personal and societal consequences of ghostly experiences.
Waskul writes in the intro to the book, “In the top corner of the window a pale, milky-white wisp is rising almost to the top of our ten-foot ceiling…. I am startled but not afraid…. Mostly, I am engrossed; I have never seen anything like this before (or since) and it fascinates me.”
Scholars speak and write a lot about why they study the things they do, how they conduct their research, what they found, and what it all means. Scholars sometimes report what their research does for them. But scholars seldom talk or write about what research does to them—a conversation that Waskul suggests that we need to initiate more frequently. Since a goal of ethnography is to engage in intense subjective submersion in order to obtain an insider’s understanding of the phenomenon the ethnographer is studying, Waskul reveals the ghosts that followed him home as well as the affect of his increasing inability to determine what is real.
Dennis Waskul is a Professor of Sociology and Distinguished Faculty Scholar at Minnesota State University Mankato. Dennis has authored or edited numerous books including Popular Culture as Everyday Life; The Senses in Self, Culture, and Society; Body/Embodiment; and Self-Games and Body-Play. He has published many empirical studies on a variety of topics including various investigations of the sexual use of new media technologies, sociology of the body, sensual sociology, and the intersections of fantasy and lived experience. Dennis Waskul has served as President of Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction.

  • After Hours AM After Hours AM Medium Armand Egidi
On this enlightening edition of After Hours AM/America’s Most Haunted Radio — with hosts Joel Sturgis and Eric Olsen — world renowned medium Armand Egidi joins us to discuss his gifts, methods, and take calls from listeners. Armand will join us in hour 2. In hour 1, Joel and Eric will reveal the week’s top paranormal news and banter amiably as is their habit. In addition, your real ghost stories will be read by our very own Sweetheart of the Great Northern Woods, Kirsten Klang!
“Where there is darkness I bring light. Where there is misunderstanding I bring clarity. To say that I love what I do would be an understatement. I’m a psychic medium and spiritual teacher driven in this life to bring forth awareness and healing through love and connection to the spiritual world,” says medium Armand Egidi. For ten years Egidi has utilized his psychic gifts to help others heal emotional wounds and face their deepest fears. Not only does he work with those in spiritual need from his New Jersey base, but he travels regularly around the country and across the globe from Sydney to Sao Paulo. As of this writing, Armand has spread his light in six countries, traveled over 78,000 miles, and Armand Egidi NYChelped nearly 3,000 people.
His goal is to help people achieve inner peace through his innate ability to channel their lost loved ones and past life experiences. Some of his most rewarding memories include easing a widow’s separation anxiety from her lost husband by channeling his presence to her, and on another occasion he was able to facilitate an apology from a dead father to his daughter for abusing her while he struggled with alcoholism.
Armand Egidi has three specific gifts that help him to help others. He is a psychic medium, able to see, hear and communicate with spirits on every level. What he can see and sense varies from spirit to spirit, of course. He is clairvoyant, able to communicate with the departed through visions, usually in a trance-like state. And he is clairaudient, able to hear spirits speak on a case-by-case basis.
Egidi recalls possessing these gifts as early as three years old, during an incident where he “just knew” his mother was irritated with his noisiness, Despite having never said a word out loud he was able to repeat verbatim what she was thinking.
Armand Egidi NYC crowdArmand’s first career was in clinical social work. He holds a BA in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ and an MSW from New York University. He still maintains his license to practice clinical social work. His transition from work as a full time clinician to a psychic healer occurred in 2007 when someone noticed his gift during a private therapy session. “I was talking to a new friend one day, someone I knew very little about and he said, ‘Armand you know what you are doing don’t you?’ I said, ‘no?’. He said ‘You’re reading me, can you continue?’ I said, ‘There is a man behind you who is a father figure to you and he is writing Radio Flyer with his finger in gold letters.’ His eyes widened and he said, ‘that’s my uncle who was a father figure to me and he gave me the 50th anniversary Radio Flyer wagon which had gold letters and night white.’ ”
Requests to see the man now referred to as “Medium Armand” began to pour in. Since this turning point he has performed readings at prestigious resorts like Deer Lake Lodge in Montgomery Texas; read several people on stage at the The Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City; and most recently he was booked as a motivational speaker for franchise owners and top level managers at the Domino’s Pizza’s world meeting in NYC this September.

Erich von Däniken set off a firestorm in the late-’60s with the release of his classic Chariots of the Gods, which set forth the proposition that man had his origins in the stars and that his development has been aided by extraterrestrials. Where did von Däniken’s extraordinary notions come? He writes in the preface to the anniversary edition of Chariots of the Gods, “I come from a very Catholic family in Switzerland and my father decided that I would have a theologically-oriented education. So he enrolled 16-year old Erich at Collège St-Michel, a Jesuit boarding school in Fribourg, Switzerland. At that time, my conception of God was magnificent and simultaneously incomprehensible – and has remained so to this day. I always thought God – who or what that was – had to exhibit some minimum features. The true God would be flawless and could do no wrong. He would have to be omnipresent and need no vehicle to get from point A to point B. In particular, God would be timeless. God could not be something that did experiments and then must wait to see what resulted. Those were the thoughts my confused 16-year old brain had about God,” he writes.
He continues, “In theology class, we regularly translated Bible passages. Typically, this was from the ancient Greek or Latin texts into German. And so my plight began. The God of the Old Testament used vehicles for his earthly visits. He was often described with attributes such as ‘smoke, fire, earthquake, or noise.’ ‘Fallen angels’ or ‘God’s sons’ came down from heaven to fornicate with pretty daughters of men according to the first book of Moses. The biblical God conducted experiments and did not know the outcomes, or worse, they were wrong. First he ‘created man and saw that it was good.’ But later “the Lord repented that he had created man, and it grieved him deeply.” He decided that the whole of humanity had to drown with the exception of Noah and his family.”
Like many seekers, Erich virtually pleads, “Was God (continued)
