When Lauren and Ryan's marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart and only one rule: They cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.
Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren's ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?

Ms Reid I am floored.
A simple story told simply. .. no frills or extra fluff and yet so soulful. You know what the end is going to be and yet it keeps you glued till the very last syllable. Three cheers Ms Reid.
Interesting...
Interesting novel. Enjoyed listening, but it wasn't one that I thought about a lot afterwards or made me seek out the author for more.
Really overrated
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Absolutely not. I enjoy chick lit, but this was like a eating a sugar-free piece of hard candy when you were promised Godiva. There's just nothing to it, and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I didn't like Lauren -- I mean, the character was so... blah she almost doesn't merit dislike, but whatever. Ryan: flat. Charlie: flat. Rachel: halfway inflated. I didn't like the family - it felt fake. The grandmother was an attempt at quirky characterization but it felt forced. Ugh, I just can't really articulate what a big pile of nothing good this book is.
If you enjoy witty chick lit with well-developed characters, do not waste your money here.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator sounded like a chipmunk.
Could you see After I Do being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No. There's not enough depth there to sustain a series.
I wanted to like it
But it is simply too.....simple, or facile. I never felt a connection to the protagonist. I wanted to like it, but I gave up after less than an hour. Others may love it...just not for me.
Perfect
This book is perfect. Its beautiful. It touched my soul. I laughed and I cried. I will be looking for more of this authors works.
