Guest: Professor David Julius
John is joined by Professor David Julius. Alongside fellow scientist, Ardem Patapoutian, he has been honoured by the 2021 Nobel Prize for Medicine for discoveries in heat and touch.
Their work has helped show how humans convert the physical impact from heat or touch into nerve impulses that allow us to 'perceive and adapt to the world around us'.
A biochemist and molecular biologist, Julius’s work has focused on how our bodies sense heat, cold, and chemical irritants, leading to new insights about the fundamental nature of pain and new targets for pain therapy.
