How did Britain cope with the massive changes of the 18th century?  Walpole skills in this regard are under appreciated.

Our emphasis is in the fast and slow changes.  The slow changes were the evolving changes in property rights, where the owners of property did not have to contend with others over their plans to nearly the extent in the past century or in a permission based society like France.  

The fast changes included religion becoming more of an issue for the masses through Methodism.

The most surprising thing about this time period is the social unrest, upheaval, and challenge to the social order....that did not happen.
