A recent national survey, "Older and Young Workers: What do Employers Think?", reveals a troubling trend in Australian workplaces: a quarter of employers are hesitant to hire individuals under 24 or over 50.

Workplace Culture and Leadership Expert, Tammy Tansley, highlights that workplace ageism is a significant and worsening issue, despite age discrimination being illegal. Employers are finding ways to bypass regulations, effectively excluding older workers.

Tansley argues that age doesn't dictate skill set, advocating for mandatory age-neutral job advertisements. With Australians working longer, often due to the rising pension age of 67 and the current cost-of-living crisis, older workers are a vital part of the workforce.

She emphasizes that younger employees could greatly benefit from the experience of their older colleagues if employers would only overcome their biases.
