  • EMB #229: Get More Out of Your Day
    The #1 reason people tell me they didn't go workout, grocery shop or prepare their meals is because they say they have no time.

    So I thought, why not do a show on how to get more out of your day, so there's more time doing the things you want or feel you don't have time for.

    Time is relevant - we all have the same hours in the day

    time is important - we all wish for more time

    - parents who sent their kids off to school or college

    - someone who’s passed away

    However we all spend time doing things, less than efficient

    - checking our newsfeed first thing in the morning

    - waiting in line for a coffee

    - living in your in box

    #1 Reason not to live a healthy lifestyle, cooking at home, working out, etc. NO TIME

    - change your mind set to I didn’t make time

    Priorities

    - we always have time for the things that are most important

    - kids school, games, going to work, etc.

    We don’t have a time issue, we have a priority issue

    Running Your Life

    - if you don’t have a plan, you’ll be a part of someone else’s

    - have some structure

    Resources:

    * First Things First by Stephen R. Covey (Author of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People)
    * Essentialism - The Disciplined Pursuit of Less - The One Thing - Gary Keller

    How Less Phone Time has changed my life

    * less interruptions - we are conditioned to be interrupted
    * feeling more connected
    * having better relationships
    * phone detox
    * mental clarity

    Other ways to connect by phone

    * social media messages
    * skype
    * facetime
    * gmail

    Less Email Time

    * no longer live in my inbox
    * check inbox 3-4 times per day
    * less on my mind
    * more time to relax, read, spend time with family
    * not working ALL THE TIME

    Saying No - It’s okay to say NO - Putting yourself last

  • 5/5 – Dangers of Instant Results
    In this show I want to talk about the dangers of instant results because we live in an instant result society which doesn't mean it's a good thing.

    The first step is to understand that we're conditioned this way. We didn't always expect an answer right back. Remember when you wrote a letter and it took a week to hear back from someone? Remember when you wrote an email and it was perfectly okay to respond a few days later?

    That's not the case anymore. We want instant results because we live in an instant result society with text messages and email, microwaves and fast food. In this show I'm going to give you 5 tips explaining the dangers of instant results.

     Instant Gratification
    It may not seem like it but this isn't exactly a good thing. Let's say you join some type of 3 day detox program where you don't eat any food and lose 5 lbs. Well this is instant results which means there's instant gratification.

    The issue here is these results aren't sustainable and your expectations rise.
    Expectations
    Because your expectations have risen you actually expect to lose another 5 lbs in a few short days, which may or may not happen. Also, you most likely will expect to lose 5 lbs in 3 days every time you try a detox (which likely won't happen).
    Sustainability
    It's not sustainable to lose 3 lbs in a few days all the time. It's not even sustainable to keep these results once you start eating food again. And finally it's not sustainable to not eat food for the rest of you life hoping to keep those lbs you just lost off.
    Health
    Think about your health when it comes to instant results. It could be a shake product, it could be a fast or detox; whatever it may be, the issue is most of these quick fix type of programs and products are terribly unhealthy for our bodies.

    Our health should come first and unfortunately we don't consider our health when we get quick results (excitement takes over) or when we're looking to make changes quickly. Most of the time if something happens quickly, we lose it just as quickly.
    In Conclusion
    It's really not worth it to look for quick results. You put your physical health in jeopardy and your emotional health is at risk too by expecting results to come quickly without putting the time and effort into finding sustainability.

    We all go through times in our lives when we experience lack of motivation, we all fall off track and we all need help to head back in the direction we want to go. These are the reasons I wanted to interview Dorothy on her results in 10 days.

    The reason why I want to share Dorothy's results isn't because I want to share how to get quick results, or how impressive her results were in only 10 days. As you'll find out Dorothy lives a healthy lifestyle full time. As a fitness advocate she leads by example, from setting new goals herself to teaching others how to do the same.

    However this doesn't mean she never runs into a road block herself. What she's going to do is tell you exactly how she was able to get back on track, how in 10 days she saw incredible results and how you can too if you follow some of her workout and nutrition suggestions.

    And finally she'll explain how you can create sustainable lifestyle changes and turn your 10 day progress into results that last!

  • 5/5 – Reduce the Risk of a Heart Attack
    I want to talk about how to reduce the risk of a heart attack because the subject has been on my mind. I feel like this is a subject we push under the rug instead of address. The truth is heart attacks don't happen when they happen, they happen years before anything physical appears. And I'm not just talking about men here, more and more women are having heart attacks as well.

    Our stressful lives, inactivity, eating habits and more all add up to heart issues if we're not careful. So what I've done here is put 5 tips together, in 5 minutes to help reduce th risk of a heart attack.

    5 Tips in 5 Minutes:

    KnowYour Family History
    Given that heart issues are hereditary, it's important we know if we are more susceptible to having a heart attack. Ask your parents, ask your grandparents, ask your aunts and uncles. We need to know because if we're more at risk we need to be even more careful with our lifestyle decisions but don't think you're off the hook if your family doesn't have a history of heart attacks.

    Get Active
    It's no secret exercising on a regular basis, no matter how small, will give you a better chance at reducing the risk of a heart attack. Get out and walk, jog, run, ride a bike. Whatever it is do something to strengthen your heart and lungs.
    Nutritionize Your Body
    It's important to put good quality food in your body. Nutrtionize your body all day long with whole food, that is easy to digest, absorb and utilize. Putting hard to digest food in your body will only increase the risk of a heart attack. Which leads me to my next point....
    Avoid Processed Food
    Putting low quality food in your body is harder on your heart. You want clear space in your veins and arteries for blood to flow through. Putting processed food or other toxins in your body will clog these arteries and is doing the exact opposite of reducing the risk of a heart attack.
    Reduce Stress
    If you're doing all of the above, maybe the most important aspect of reducing the risk of a heart attack is reducing stress in your life. We can all take some form of action towards reducing stress. Getting away, writing, breathing exercises, yoga, prayer, meditation and more. The list really is never ending on what we can do to reduce stress.

    But none of this matters if we don't take action.
