The doctors are joined by a group of veteran Public Safety Officers, Detective Lance Watkins, Sergeant DeAndre’ Hutchison, Officer Desiree Stanislas, Detective Eric Carr, and Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Verdi Lethermon.
Detective Lance Watkins, a dedicated law enforcement professional with a combined total of 29 years in the fields of Corrections, Policing, and Military Intelligence. He’s an Adjunct Professor at Lee Community College where he teaches in-class and online criminal justice courses.
Sergeant DeAndre’ Hutchison, is the President of the African American Police Officers League and has been a member of the Houston Police Department (HPD) for the past 8 years. As the newly elected President of AAPOL, he is actively working with the Mayor of Houston, HPD’s Police Chief, and AAPOL Board members to improve HPD’s recruiting efforts.
Officer Desiree Stanislas is a veteran police officer with more than 10 years in law enforcement. She is committed to public service and passionate about promoting positive relationships with both her colleagues and the community.
Detective Eric Carr is the Executive Director of the African American Police Officers League. He’s been with the Houston Police Dept. for 17-years and an award-winning Detective assigned to the Cyber & Financial Crimes Division where he specializes in ID theft & Elder Exploitations.
Dr. Verdi Lethermon is an author, teacher, and clinical psychologist who worked in law enforcement for 20+ years. She retired in 2014 as the Director of the Psychological Services Division for the Houston Police Department. Since retiring, she has expanded her private practice and serves as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society.
The killing of George Floyd ignited the nation and sparked a movement that can no longer be contained. It was a bitter reminder of the fact that Institutional Racism is alive and well and continues to wreak havoc of Black Americans, including those who strive to Balance Black and Blue. During this episode, these officers share their experiences, as the struggle to toe the line between living black in America and maintaining their commitment to community service. So get ready, it’s time for straight talk, no chaser!
