Erdogan criticizes the court mandate on Twitter
TURKEY - The Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, criticized the mandate of the Constitutional Court to lift the ban on Twitter, claiming that 'he does not respect it'. This was when Erdogan himself had insisted on the ban after recordings about allegations of corruption that 'bind him and his relatives' started circulating online.
While the Court encouraged the telecommunications authorities in Turkey to lift the ban 'which limits free expression', Erdogan said that he 'does not think this is an appropriate decision' and even though his Government is committed to follow the directive.
Erdogan, who days ago declared 'war' on social media (Twitter), also said that 'while the Court is protecting an American company, the moral and national values (of Turkey) are being ignored'.
The Turkish press, meanwhile, reported that a court mandate is also insisting on the lifting of a similar ban for YouTube, although it is understood that a number of videos should remain 'blocked'.

Diversity, inclusiveness and social commitment are the key elements for unity
Diversity and social commitment are elements that should increase unity among the Maltese people and bring out more the identity and values of the people.
This was supported by the new President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca in the first meetings she had with the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, with the Leader of the Opposition Simon Busuttil and with the Chairperson of the Democratic Alternative Arnold Cassola. The meetings took place in the Palace of San Anton and were the last official activities of the new President during the day of Friday.
The Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that the enthusiasm shown by the people for the appointment of Marie Louise Coleiro Preca as a new president should bode well for this presidency to be based on the social aspect and also on the importance of the role of women in society, claimed the Prime Minister.

Editorial: Bad market, and with confirmation
Last Thursday, the Statistical Office of the European Union, Eurostat, released figures on sales in shops throughout the Union. These figures confirmed what they have been saying about shops in Malta: that they are suffering from a bad market. And not only; they also confirm that the bad market in Malta is in contrast to the rest of Europe.
Increase in sales in Europe
The Eurostat figures are for February, for each country of the European Union, but they also give the general trend in the Union taken at once. And this was a good one. The European Union continues to confirm that it has emerged, and now it has been a while, from the worst recession it has suffered in the last 80 years and in February sales in stores in Europe increased by 1.5 percent over the same month of the previous year.
We are supposed to have done better in Malta...
So in Malta we had to expect to do even better, because the severe recession that Europe suffered in recent years barely touched us, and if in Malta we were doing well in recent years when the -Europe was doing badly, so look how well we should be doing when Europe is also doing well.

The Leader of the Opposition visited the Science Expo
The Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Nationalist Party Simon Busuttil this morning visited the Science Expo organized by the NSTF at the MCAST Institute of Applied Science in Paola. Simon Busuttil was welcomed by the Secretary General of NSTF Francis Stivala and by the Coordinator in NSTF on Science Programs Carl Agius.
The Leader of the Opposition visited a number of classes in which several Primary students from Church and State Schools were doing experiments on applied science. Simon Busuttil also appreciated the creative works that were uploaded by students of the Secondary School and from MCAST itself, while praising their efforts to create truly original projects.
In two words to journalists at the end of the visit, the Leader of the Opposition praised the Science Expo, which he described as an impressive display. He praised the NSTF because year after year, the students are living and experiencing science with the purpose of the subject being followed. Simon Busuttil was impressed by the superior level of the experiments and the students, who not only presented a document with information about their project, but were able to communicate their creativity with others.
Simon Busuttil stressed that the Opposition would like to see the Government continue to push Science, Creativity and Innovation. The Leader of the Opposition stated that this is an area where the Government and the Opposition can seek consensus so that there are more initiatives on science in the country. It is hoped that by 2020, the Government will spend 2% of the Budget on research and innovation.
For his part, the Secretary General of NSTF stated that this year's Expo attracted the interest of 46 Schools and brought about 6,000 students to it. Francis Stivala said that the aim of the NSTF is to reduce the discrepancy in science activities that take place abroad and those that are organized locally. Therefore, in Malta, emphasis is being placed so that in schools, students come up with original ideas and develop projects related to science and information technology.

Hotel ordered to pay car owner after gallery surrendered
The Preluna hotel located in Triq it-Torri was ordered by the Court to pay the sum of €1,907.85 to the owner of a car that was damaged when an aluminum structure of a gallery that forms part of the hotel fell in a strong storm that occurred on March 10 two years ago.
The request was made by a certain Tamara Micallef, who said in court that she had parked her car at the Preluna hotel, and when she returned, she realized that aluminum and glass from the balcony had fallen onto her car, where damage was done to the roof of the car, the "bonnet" and one of the car's doors.
The hotel had argued that the incident had occurred as a result of a strong storm that it had nothing to do with.
The Court through a tribunal accepted the request of Micallef's where it was noted that other galleries had not given up because of the storm.
It was noticed that the gallery had corroded bolts, and the hotel did not produce "records" of maintenance of the structure, since that part was founded, 25 years ago.
