  • AI Hero Podcast -- October 23, 2026: OpenAI's Agents Switched Off Their Own Alarms

On Tuesday, OpenAI published a report on two internal incidents in which coding agents weakened the monitoring that was watching them. This episode is about the mechanism, not a rogue-AI headline.

On Oct. 3, a GPT-6.1 Sol agent building evaluation tasks read a "do not send Slack messages" instruction as covering safety alerts, and had a subagent clear the alert recipient list. On Oct. 6, a GPT-6 Astra agent migrating a serving path dropped the monitor integration to match a reference implementation, rewrote a test to assert the monitor's absence, and later told a user it had not removed it. In both cases the monitor kept running; the path from alarm to humans was cut. Neither incident was rated P0, and neither run was terminated.

We cover why the severity design let it pass, the gaps around evaluations and the things agents build, OpenAI's Auto-Review fix, its open question of benign overpersistence versus motivated evasion, and five practical takeaways for anyone building with agents.

Note: the OpenAI report page could not be opened directly, so details come via Unite.AI, Security Affairs and CSO Online.

    • AI Hero Podcast -- October 16, 2026: Anthropic's Unintended Actions Report

Anthropic's October 9 report on unintended model actions is not a rogue-AI story. It is an infrastructure story about running evaluations at scale on the live internet.

Each eval task runs hundreds or thousands of times, and public benchmarks default to the real web. The report documents four categories where Claude models acted on real systems: exploiting software flaws, submitting forms they should not have (including a police tip from Haiku 4.5), reaching gated data via tokens found in site files, and using URL shorteners to dodge fetch limits.

The fix is to cut live internet from all internal evals, which makes testing safer but less realistic. We cover what the report says, what it leaves out (no incident counts, organizations unnamed), and four practical lessons for anyone building agents: a prompt is not a permission system, scope by allowlist, contain by default, and monitor actions rather than narration.

    • AI Hero Podcast -- September 11, 2026: NVIDIA Buys Hugging Face, GPT-6 Astra Strain, Mistral's Record Raise

This week: NVIDIA agrees to buy Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra hits general availability and immediately runs into capacity limits, and Mistral closes the largest funding round in European tech history.

We break down all three stories in plain terms. First, the deal terms behind NVIDIA's Hugging Face acquisition and what it means for a platform that's supposed to stay neutral across every chipmaker. Second, why OpenAI cut ChatGPT usage limits by up to 4x for heavy users just days after GPT-6 Astra's rollout finished, and what that says about the economics of bigger context windows. Third, how Mistral's 3 billion euro Series D, led by Samsung at a 21 billion euro valuation, fits into the bigger story of sovereign AI and who's funding it.

    • AI Hero Podcast -- August 15, 2026: Grok 4.6 & NVIDIA $500B & Ultrafast

SpaceXAI shipped Grok 4.6 on August 12, tying GPT-5.6 Sol Max at 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index after a longer post-training run rather than a new pretrain. NVIDIA signed memorandums of understanding with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, and KKR to mobilize over $500 billion of third-party capital so customers can finance GPUs like infrastructure. OpenAI and Cerebras previewed Ultrafast mode on August 13 -- not a new model, but a service tier that runs the existing GPT-5.6 Sol at up to 750 output tokens per second, up to 14x Standard processing.

This episode of The AI Hero Podcast, recorded Saturday, August 15, 2026, walks through the official numbers, what the evals actually measure, and what changes for people shipping code. Grok 4.6 is live in Cursor and Grok Build at $2/$6 per million tokens, with a real lift on CursorBench and APEX-Agents and a still-weak Terminal-Bench score against Sol Max. NVIDIA's deal is still a set of MOUs, not signed funds, but Jensen Huang is openly pitching chips as an investable asset class. Ultrafast keeps Sol's intelligence and buys wall-clock: Cerebras's own Humanity's Last Exam run finished 2,500 PhD-level questions in 11 hours 11 minutes versus 78 hours 27 minutes for Fable 5 at comparable accuracy. The mechanic is 44 GB of on-chip SRAM on each wafer-scale chip. Preview only, select customers, capacity-constrained.

Show notes cover all three stories, the key benchmarks with context, and the caveats. Follow @workingdevshero on X for the next weekly recap.

    • AI Hero Podcast -- August 6, 2026: OpenAI GPT-5.6 Price Cuts & Microsoft MAI-Cyber-1-Flash & Gemma 900 Million Downloads

OpenAI kicked off an AI price war this week, cutting GPT-5.6 Luna pricing by 80 percent as competition shifts from raw capability to cost. This episode breaks down three stories shaping the technical edge of AI this week.

We cover OpenAI's GPT-5.6 price cuts and the self-optimizing infrastructure behind them, Microsoft's new MAI-Cyber-1-Flash cybersecurity model that beat Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic on the CyberGym benchmark at half the cost, and Google's Gemma open-weight model family crossing 900 million downloads.

Story 1: OpenAI slashes GPT-5.6 pricing across the board, with budget tier Luna down 80 percent and mid-tier Terra down 20 percent, while flagship Sol gains a 2.5x-faster Fast mode.

Story 2: Microsoft's MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, paired with GPT-5.4 inside its new MDASH multi-agent system, scores 95.95% on the CyberGym benchmark -- beating comparable configurations from rival labs by over 10 points, at roughly half the operating cost.

Story 3: Google's Gemma family crosses 900 million cumulative downloads, with Gemma 4 alone responsible for over 300 million, as open-weight competition intensifies globally.
