Gauḍapādācārya's Advaita Vedānta doctrine of Ajātivāda, the assertion that the universe has never truly originated. This teaching mandates that spiritual practitioners must eventually negate the initial acceptance of creation (adhyāropa prakriyā) by moving to the stage of apavāda prakriyā in order to achieve liberation from saṃsāra. To logically establish non-origination, Gauḍapāda refutes various theories of creation, including those positing Brahman as the material cause and the Sāṃkhya concept of eternal Prakṛti transforming into the cosmos. Karika 4/14 specifically critiques dualistic views of causality, such as the Mīmāṁsaka belief in a beginningless, cyclical chain of action and reaction, showing that mutual reliance between cause and effect leads to the fallacy of mutual dependence. By demonstrating that empirical causation is logically inconsistent, the ultimate goal is to prove that the perceived world is merely an appearance (Māyā), not a true creation stemming from the unborn, immutable Ātman.
