  • Political scientist and activist: Interview with Théo Martin (in English)

Welcome to Akademikere i aksjon?! Academics in Action?!

Can sustainability research really challenge the systems driving the climate crisis, or does academia risk reinforcing them?

In this 10th episode episode of Akademikere i aksjon?! Academics in Action?!, we talk with Théo Martin, researcher in political ecology and activist with Scientist Rebellion Norway, about the politics of knowledge production, the influence of research funding, and the contradictions of sustainability research within academia. We explore how climate activism can broaden our understanding of what it means to be a researcher and open up new ways of putting science into action. And for academics who want to get involved: where to start, and why is building community so important?

These and other questions are covered in the podcast episode, which is hosted by Ina Nagler, PhD researcher at the University of Bergen.

The episode was recorded in English on October 23, 2026.

  • Communication researcher and activist: Interview with Anne Klenge (in English)

Episode 7 features Anne Klenge, doctoral student in communication studies at Kristiania in Oslo. Her research focuses on strategic communication and framing strategies employed by the Norwegian climate movement to contest the "Norwegian climate paradox." Positioned at the intersection of social movement research and strategic communication, her doctoral project explores how activist groups, grassroots organizations or environmental NGOs construct counter-narratives to challenge the legitimacy of continued fossil fuel production in a resource-rich democracy.

In this podcast interview, Klenge discusses overlaps between academic work and activism, with a particular emphasis on the value of community building in political communication. As an organiser in Folk mot Fossilmakta, Anne has been involved in various forms of activism, some of which has resulted in having to wear a ankle brace during a home prison sentence for 50 days. Most recently, she organized a walk from Eidsvoll to Stortinget to mark the need to democratize the Norwegian Oil Fund and to build community around this demand.

Marion Grau spoke with Anne Klenge on June 25, 2026 (podcast language is English).

Are academics doing enough—or should more of them step into activism and politics?
