In the book of Ephesians, Paul prays that the readers of this letter would come to know the power of God - the same power that raised Christ from the dead is now available to us through faith. What does this mean? As we look to the Gospel of John, we find the Risen Jesus appearing to His disciples and these resurrection appearances are transformative: grief is turned to joy; fear is replaced with peace; doubt is overcome by faith; and guilt is forgiven.

Israel is at a critical juncture in her history. The great leader, Moses, has passed away. The people are poised on the brink of the Promised Land and they turn now to Joshua for leadership. The task is a challenging one: to seize the land from the grip of the idolatrous Canaanites. With these words, God encourages Joshua: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened…for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)Today's study focuses on the promises of God and the faith of Joshua.

The scene is overwhelming to Israel: thunder and lightning, rolling clouds, the mountain of God covered with smoke and fire. Moses has led the children of Israel to the foot of Mount Sinai for one purpose: to enter into covenant with God through the giving of His law. The mountain is the place Israel hears the voice of God and receives His instructions for true life. Today, we climb the mountain as well, seeking to hear and obey God's holy Word.
