The Animal Kingdom is full of lessons that we can share with our children, one of which is leadership. Children are born with an innate love and fascination towards animals and if we aspire for them to be leaders why not show them examples of leadership from what they love. In this episode we talk about chimpanzees and their political genius, the wolf pack behavior as a good model of leadership tactics and finally geese as they distribute roles to make each goose – not just one – responsible for contributing to the big picture. Happy New Year, 2022 is upon us. 

We usually use this time to write our goals and reflect on the past and implement change in the future. As parents we reflect a lot on what we’ve done with our children, how much time we’ve spent with them, how much we’ve given them from love and affection. We blame ourselves for their mistakes and any bad behavior they display. Our goal from this episode is to start a New Year with less blame, as children portraying challenging behavior is a normal part of their development and growth and rather use therapeutic stories to flag the behavior and help them get past it. كل عام واللغة العربية بألف خير ونحتفل مع ضيفة الحلقة نهى فرغلي، معلمة لغة عربية للأطفال من عمر ثلاث إلى تسع سنوات حاصلة على عدة شهادات ومنها دبلوم مونتيسوري. نتحدث معها عن مساعدة أطفالنا على حب اللغة العربية والتحدث بها، فمعظم أطفالنا يفضلون اللغة الإنجليزية لسهولتها وكونها لغة اللعب. استمعوا الآن واكتشفوا النصائح العدة التي شاركتنا إياها نهى من خبرة ١٥ سنة في التدريس لتهيئ بيئة عربية في المنزل.

Happy Arabic World Day, in this episode we celebrate with our guest Noha Farghaly, who has spent the past 15 years teaching Arabic to children between the age of 3 to 9 years old. Noha carries a lot of certifications, one of which is a Montessori diploma. We discuss with Noha the best way to support our children in loving the Arabic language and speaking it at home. We all choose to speak English first because it’s a common language and it’s easier, tune in to find out the different advice Noha has shared to foster an environment of Arabic.

We spend a lot of time thinking and we often say to our children, partner and families “let me think”.We also expect our children to think and ask them “did you think about it”  Have we ever stopped for a minute to think about thinking, does my child know how to think? True, we are all blessed with brains to think but do we know how to optimize the left side and right side of the brain to truly analyze and think it through. In this episode, we discuss critical thinking and how we teach it to our children. Critical thinking is a skill that can be taught just like riding a bike. Simply put, it is the ability to think clearly and rationally about a complex topic and analyze it in a way that helps us solve problems. We speak of a method called the “thinking hats” to help you teach your child critical thinking. Tune in.

كوكب الأرض يعاني. وهذه مشكلة العصر. ما بين التلوث، الاحتباس الحراري، انقراض الكائنات (الحيوان والنبات). الكوكب يصرخ ساعدوني. 

هل طفلنا القائد ملم بهذه المواضيع؟ هل هو مدرك أنه جزء لا يتجزأ من كوكب الأرض ومن وظائفه مساعدة كوكبنا. هذا الإدراك مبني على ترابطه مع الخالق، مع الطبيعة، مع الكائنات، واستمتاع قائدنا بالتصالح الذاتي وحس المسؤولية.وهنا يأتي دور التعليم الكوني الذي يؤسس الطفل على الترابط مع الكوكب. فينظر الطفل إلي نفسه على أنه جزء من الكون ، وينظر إلى الكوكب برهبة وامتنان لأنه بدونه لن يكون هنا.  التعليم الكوني يساعده على احترام جميع المخلوقات من أصغرها مثل النمل والديدان، إلى النباتات وتقدير سلسلة الغذاء بأكملها.

A child’s relationship with the universe starts from the early years and it all begins when the caregiver creates a bond between the child and the universe. This bond is critical in giving the child a sense of responsibility, purpose and care towards planet earth and all its creatures. Here comes the role of Cosmic Education which is a cornerstone of Montessori Philosophy. At its core, Cosmic Education tells the story of the interconnectedness of all things. The child looks at himself as a part of the universe, he looks at the planet with awe and gratitude because without it he wouldn't be here. It helps him appreciate all creatures from the tiniest like ants and worms, to plants, and the whole dynamic of the food chain. In this episode we speak to Faris Khalifeh a Quiet Leadership Coach about the difference between being shy and being an introvert. We discuss in depth how social labels such as shy limits our abilities and turns a feeling to a personality trait which goes with you to adulthood. Society labels a child as shy if he refuses to speak up, dance at a birthday party, clinged to his mother, or does not participate in class.
