In this episode, we speak with 2020 Siena College Summer Legal Fellow at the Government Law Center Cheyenne Lufkin, who is the primary author of the latest GLC explainer about the Paycheck Protection Program.

Lufkin is a senior at Siena College majoring in political science and minoring in business with a certificate in pre-law. Cheyenne served as an intern in the Albany office of Hodgson & Russ LLP and in the Washington, D.C., office of U.S. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.  She was raised and currently lives in Argyle, New York.  For 10 years, Cheyenne has helped organize the Carl Lufkin Memorial “Pull for a Cure” held in Argyle to raise money for cancer research and treatment.

In this episode, we are speaking with the newest member of the Albany Law faculty, Professor Jacob Victor, who is an expert in intellectual property and technology law. 

Professor Victor joined the law school on July 1. As a tenure-track faculty member at Albany Law School, Professor Victor will teach intellectual property-related courses and first-year property; develop a program for students interested in innovation- and technology-focused careers; serve as faculty advisor to the Innovation Intensive apprenticeship clinic, an experiential opportunity offered in partnership with the Research Foundation for SUNY and SUNY Polytechnic Institute; and continue his research on how intellectual property law is adapting to the digital age.

Today we are speaking with Kendra Rubin, Class of 2012, who was named the chief legal officer at the State Employees Federal Credit Union (SEFCU) just weeks ago.

Prior to SEFCU she was the vice president of governmental affairs with the New York State Credit Union Association and spent time in public service in the New York State Governor's Office, the Department of Health, and the Bureau of Program Counsel. She was named to City & State’s 40 under 40 list in 2019.

While at Albany Law School, Rubin was president of the Pro Bono Society and was a recipient of the prestigious Edgar ’46 and Margaret Sandman Fellowship.

In this episode, we are speaking with Matthew Skinner '09, executive director of the New York State Unified Court System’s Richard C. Failla LGBTQ Commission, about the  Supreme Court's landmark decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia. 

Skinner was appointed to the Failla Commission in December 2017. The Commission itself was created in 2016 to promote equal participation and access throughout the court system regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. It was named in honor of late New York State Supreme Court Justice and LGBTQ rights advocate Richard C. Failla, who was the first openly gay person elected to that court. 

For those who may have missed the ruling on June 15, with a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that the 1964 Civil Rights Act—which bans workplace discrimination based on sex, race and religion—also applies to sexual orientation. Prior to the decision, it was legal in a majority of states for employees to be fired for being gay, bisexual, or transgender.
