Robyn McSweeney, Author of "Albert Edmund Cockram King Of The Racecourse 1870-1943" joins us on Remember When to discuss the story of her great-grandfather who owned Belmont and Goodwood racecourses until his death in 1943.
Albert was the largest importer of thoroughbreds into Australia in his time and was the father of racing in Australia. He was bringing in the bloodlines from England, Ireland and France in the early 1900s.Her book takes the reader on a journey from the beginning to the building of Belmont Racecourse to the Cockram horses that scorch-ed across Australia winning Perth Cups, Sydney Cups, Epsoms and other majors.
Robyn will be giving a talk at the Midland Historical Society on Sunday 7th February at the Midland Courthouse at 2.30pm. Afternoon tea supplied. Gold coin donation appreciated.
