In this episode, I talk about the connection between alcohol use, memory problems, and alcohol-related dementia. This topic became personal for me after my grandfather passed away and my family believed he had alcohol-related dementia. It made me start looking into how alcohol affects memory, brain health, and long-term cognitive function, especially since I’ve noticed my own struggles with memory over the years.

I explore how heavy alcohol use can lead to vitamin deficiencies, cognitive impairment, and conditions like Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. I also talk about why learning about these risks has been one of the biggest motivators for me to cut back on drinking and take better care of my health. Finally, I share a few things I’ve learned about how to support someone living with dementia and why patience and understanding matter so much when someone you love begins losing parts of themselves to the disease.
