I'm totally pumped about this interview with my friend Janna Marlies Maron. Janna was instrumental in my success early on when I started my local marketing company and hosting events in the Sacramento market. There was a season where Janna went through a whole lot of crap, things I didn't know about until I interviewed her for the podcast. You want to talk about resilience and a fighter, well Janna is both of those and then some.
This week she's releasing her book: How to Manage Depression Without Drugs. I caught up with Janna just before her book launches so the Successfool community can get some insight on managing depression. Depression is very real for entrepreneurs. I've been reading and hearing a lot of stories about depression among Silicon Valley startup owners, even a recent suicide. This makes me extremely sad.
You many not be dealing with depression yourself, but this interview and book are much more than just about depression. They are about the story we tell ourselves in our minds. Janna gives great insights into how the story we tell ourselves creates the reality we experience.
In this interview with Janna Marlies Maron, we discuss:
- Her rise to becoming a well-known writer in her community
- How someone who's going through adversity can come out successful
- The trap of not being the "true you" on social media (we talk about the Sasquatch video)
- How choosing the right words are critical when you're going through something
- Why allowing time for things to change is important when creating your story
- Her definition of a Successfool
