In this video, I discuss the benefits of using analog sensors over digital sensors, particularly for precise measurements and continuous ranges of values. I then demonstrate how to connect an MCP3008, an 8 channel 10 bit ADC chip, to a Raspberry Pi to read analog sensors, using an eTape sensor as an example and showing how to convert the raw digital output into meaningful units. I then introduce the QT Py ESP32 Pico microcontroller from Adafruit, which has built-in wifi and analog pins, making it a convenient and affordable solution for monitoring sensors remotely.
