PhD Candidate Alex Manson is interested in the opportunity for food to be provided in the school environment. Her thesis is examining perceptions of the current school food system and the features that influence parental acceptability of a potential school-provided meal system in Australia. We discuss the benefits of this potential system such as children’s school attendance, equal nutrition provided for all students regardless of SES, nutrition education, and the release of parent and family burden for the time and commitment to preparing school lunches. Alex is one month out from her PhD confirmation (the first major milestone here in Australia); we talk about her research progress and journey from undergraduate nutrition to honours and now full-time candidature including some past RA work.
