The Broken Record Player Podcast

Alice in Chains-Dirt

Listen Later

On this episode, my good friend, and history tour guide (focusing on macabre history of Boise, Idaho), Mark Iverson sits down with me to talk about one of our favorite albums: Dirt by Alice in Chains. Mark also happens to be from Seattle, giving him an insight into this band/music scene that few have.

Released in 1992 at the height of the Grunge explosion out of Seattle, Dirt (the second studio album by the band) took 90s rock to a whole new level of grittiness and darkness. With themes exploring drug addiction, depression, and death, and featuring the haunting and melodic vocals of Layne Staley, and the backing vocals/sludgy guitar work of Jerry Cantrell, Dirt was able to present heavy subject matter packaged in a painful, yet beautiful, manner.

We discuss the emotions in this album, the tragedies, the beauty, and Mark takes us through some of his old haunts in Seattle that are related to Alice in Chains.
