On October 14, 1968, a magnitude 6.5 quake shook Meckering and it's surrounds, destroying roads, railway tracks and buildings.

When the dust literally settled, $2.2 million worth of damage had been done to the central wheatbelt town, and injuring over 20 people.

Alice Snook has been collecting peoples stories from the quake, and they've been compiled into a book called 40 Seconds which launches this month.
