His Ghanaian mother-in-law told him that in the Mami Wata tradition, an indigenous story of abduction, underwater bases, and hybrid children has been told for centuries. A family friend was taken from a beach near Anloga in the Volta region for three years and held in an underwater base where the beings looked almost human but were not. Every detail of that story, Wallis says, recurs in the Tylwyth Teg stories of Wales, in Robert Kirk's Secret Commonwealth collected in Scotland in the 1600s, and in the Philippines, where entire vocabularies were built around the abduction narrative.

On October 11, 1973, two shipyard workers from Pascagoula, Mississippi went fishing on the Pascagoula River and came back with a story nobody wanted to hear: three robotic beings floated them inside a UFO and examined them for close to an hour. Calvin felt a puncture on his arm and went limp, conscious but paralyzed, as the beings floated him up into the craft. Inside, a device the size of a deck of cards scanned him from the ceiling. A more human-looking female figure examined his face, ran her fingers along his throat, and told him telepathically not to be afraid. Then they set him back on the riverbank, and the craft shot straight up and vanished.

What makes the case stand out in ufology: the men did not want to report it. They were talked into it after a shattered car window. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department secretly recorded their private conversation, expecting to catch a hoax, and instead captured two terrified men. Hickson passed a polygraph. J. Allen Hynek, the astronomer behind Project Blue Book, interviewed them and said that if they were actors they belonged in Hollywood. Puncture marks were documented, and Keesler Air Force Base ran radiation checks.

Calvin then went silent for 45 years, until Philip Mantle helped him publish Pascagoula: The Closest Encounter: My Story. He also recounts a 1993 missing-time event at Cat Island, a hypnotic regression with Budd Hopkins, and a physical confrontation with a being he believes tried to implant him. Calvin Parker passed away in 2023, which makes this interview a lasting record of his testimony.
