IN THIS REPEAT - Dr. Hal Poe shares about his bio on the early life of C.S. Lewis in Becoming C.S. Lewis.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How well do you know C.S. Lewis? You probably don't know Jack as well as you think, until you know his early life. Or more accurately, nearly all of Lewis' interests and tastes were formed in his first twenty years. That is the new book by Dr. Harry Lee (Hal) Poe, entitled Becoming C.S. Lewis examines these early years and shows how his youth influenced his later life and writings. This podcast interview features Dr. Poe explaining how he came to write this book (the first of three) and why knowing Jack Lewis (his friends called him "Jack") is best understood by exploring his formative years.
IN THIS REPEAT: Biography on Warren Lewis (brother of C.S. Lewis) written by Don King.
Inkling, Historian, Soldier, and Brother: A Life of Warren Hamilton Lewis (released January 2023) by Don King provides a detailed look at C.S. Lewis’s brother. In this podcast interview with William O’Flaherty, Don talks about the first-ever full biography of the man known as “Warnie” to his friends. While the focus is on Warnie, there are insights into C.S. Lewis that nature comes up. As the title notes, Warnie lived an interesting life that included being a soldier, author of historical books and an Inkling! In addition to listening to the podcast version, you can also watch the same interview via YouTube (see below).
IN THIS REPEAT: A talk I gave in early April 2016 about a running theme in The Screwtape Letters.
I just gave the following talk on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Inklings Fellowship Weekend Retreat that was held in Montreat, NC at Montreat College. It was also the public debut of my first book C.S. Lewis Goes to Hell: A Companion and Study Guide to The Screwtape Letters. While I do give a summary of the unique aspects of my book, the main focus of the talk is about the devils' secret weapon that is mentioned in nearly all of the letters. My book just list them, but this presentation provides more details and gives a practical application to one's life. Visit my website to contact me about giving this talk or a three or four part presentation on all of the places this weapon is mentioned or alluded to.
