One of the real highlights was Whiskey Thief Distillery in Franklin County. It’s a 127-acre working farm where the corn doesn’t just look pretty in the fields—it ends up in your glass. From the still to the fermentation tanks to the barrel warehouse, everything is right there, no smoke and mirrors. It’s the kind of place where what you see is literally what you drink.
The owner’s story is as interesting as the whiskey itself. He studied architecture at the University of Kentucky, moved to Los Angeles with his then-girlfriend (now wife), and quickly realized he liked architecture but didn’t love the business of it. After stints at Apple and Microsoft—where things move faster than a Friday night CTA train—he did what any reasonable husband would do: came home one day and said, “Honey, I bought a distillery.”
