Dr. Ashish Jha is the man I turn to when I want public health guidance in the wake of a new variant. In this case, that variant is Omicron. He tells us what we need to know now and provides a timeline of when we will know even more. He also told me that this latest variant likely didn't start in South Africa but was, instead, simply detected there.
Dr. Jha is Dean of the Brown University School of Public Health and one of the nation's leading health policy scholars. Throughout 2020 - especially in the early days -- whenever Dr. Ashish Jha came on screen, I stopped what I was doing and turned up the volume. He knows the science and he communicates with compassion and clarity. Perhaps most importantly, he breaks this evolving pandemic down in a way that makes me believe we will one day move past the pandemic, into a more manageable place with respect to COVID.
