  • Factor Investing with Corey Hoffstein (009)
The ninth episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast is a special one--in this episode, I'm joined by Corey Hoffstein, co-founder and CIO of Newfound Research. I've followed Corey for a few years now and have had the opportunity to talk with him on a number of occasions, so when he agreed to come on the podcast I was extremely excited. Corey is one of the sharpest people I've met and there are a number of topics I could have discussed with him, but I settled on factor investing since it is a topic he has written about on numerous occasions. For many listeners, the concept of factor investing may be a new topic and there is no one better to introduce the topic to you than Corey.
In this episode, Corey will introduce you to factor investing, how it can be used in a portfolio, and what needs to be considered if/when using factors in a portfolio. He also shares his favorite factor and a great introductory book if you are interested in learning more. There is a lot of great information in this episode, and Corey does an amazing job breaking down a complicated topic in terms we can all understand.
Don't worry, despite all of the investment conversations, we still find time to talk a little fitness.
Disclaimer: Although we do not discuss in great detail, Newfound Research does offer mutual funds investing in strategies we discuss in this episode. Corey's appearance and mention of his firm and mutual fund do not represent an endorsement of Newfound Research or its funds. This conversation should also not be considered a recommendation of investment strategy or funds. Consult your financial advisor if you are interested in factor investing.

  • Young, Fun and Financially Free with Leanna Haakons (008)
In the eighth episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast, I get the opportunity to talk with Leanna Haakons, the founder of Black Hawk Financial. Leanna has taken her experience consulting with various investment companies to helping wealth management firms communicate better with their clients. In addition to helping firms educate their clients, Leanna has also written her own educational book, Young, Fun and Financially Free.
We spend most of our time discussing her book, particularly focusing on the areas most personal finance introductory books miss. And yes, we even manage to work in the topic of fitness in our conversation...the streak continues!!
I really enjoyed getting to talk with Leanna. We covered a lot of ground and important topics for not just young professionals, but anyone looking to get a better grasp on their financial situation.
    I hope you enjoy!

  • Foundations Of Financial Planning With Tim Mullooly (007)
In the seventh episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast I'm joined by Tim Mullooly, one the fearsome foursome at Mullooly Asset Management. Tim works alongside his father Tom and his brothers Brendan and Casey--you'll be hearing more from the Mullooly clan in the future. I recently was a guest on Tim's podcast, Living With Money, and I asked him to join me on AAYB to continue our conversation into a deeper discussion about the foundations of a financial plan.
Many individuals are approached by "financial advisors" claiming to offer financial planning when in reality it becomes a sales pitch or only asset management. Tim and I cover the areas you should have addressed when working with a financial advisor to create your financial plan. If some of these topics are new to you, then it may be time to revisit your plan and possibly your financial advisor. It was a great conversation and I think it will be helpful to those wanting to get started on their financial planning, but not quite sure where to start.
    I hope you enjoy!

  • Volatility And The VIX With Andrew Thrasher (006)
The sixth episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast is a special edition, and I'm joined by my friend Andrew Thrasher to discuss the recent volatility in the market and what that means to the average investor. We'll discuss what volatility and the VIX are, how he uses it in his job, how the average investor should react to volatility, and cover the risks of some of the investments available dealing with volatility.
There is no one more qualified to cover this topic; Andrew is the 2017 Charles H. Dow Award winner for his paper on volatility, and we're lucky to steal some of his time! I'm looking forward to having him back on for a formal conversation in the future.
    I hope you enjoy!
