Even though it’s the Christmas season, we find our focus in Mozambique shifting toward safety because crime in Maputo and Matola is severe and ever-present. We’ve experienced repeated thefts, robberies, and even an armed home invasion at our home and the Sunshine Houses, pushing us to reinforce security with higher walls, electric fencing, and now barbed wire. Recent incidents—like the theft of our van’s battery and even our puppy—show just how persistent and resourceful thieves can be. With seven of our nine homes still needing protection, we’re hoping for support to install barbed wire so our families can feel safe and have peace of mind this Christmas.
