Samuel grows up in the shadow of Eli's two wicked sons. Along the way we see the corruption of the Aaronic priesthood during the time of the Judges. A nameless man comes to Eli to speak for God and tells him that His line will be cut off from God's throne. We take a bit of time at the end of the chapter to follow up on this prophesy and how it connects to Jesus as High Priest - even though he's from Judah, not Levi.

After finishing the Sermon on the Mount and healing the multitudes. Jesus returns from the graveyard to Capernaum. Here he has those that believe and an increasingly hostile group of Pharisees contesting Jesus.

After finishing the Sermon on the Mount Jesus proceeds to back it up. Matthew gathers stories that exemplify Jesus' total authority by which he can announce a New Kingdom of Heaven. He heals a leper, a Centurion's servant, Peter's Mother-in-Law, then commands His followers to get in a boat, go to a graveyard, just to save two lost men. The "multitudes" now fit into a single fishing boat!

- Hannah is broken before the Lord and asks for a son. The Lord hears her and we are introduced to Samuel, a boy raised in the temple - unique even among Levites. A new chapter in Israel's history begins with Hannah.

Ruth 4 - Redeeming -

Matthew 7 - All In 

Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount giving his followers guidance on how to judge in the New Kingdom by asking, seeking, and knocking, using the Golden Rule, and choosing the narrow way. Kingdom people become fruit inspectors and carefully watch out for those that say they follow Christ, but don't know Him and build their house on His foundation.

Naomi tells Ruth to propose to Boaz. Ruth goes to the threshing floor and asks Boaz to be redeemed as her kinsman-redeemer. Boaz promises that he will not rest until the matter is settled. She goes home, tells Naomi, and has to wait for the promise to be fulfilled.
