Christians are “beloved” of God.  This means that we have been specially chosen by Him, we can rely on Him to give us justice, we have a reason to be pure and holy, and to love one another.  Because He loves us, He is always with us, listening to our prayers.  And because He loves us a glorious eternity awaits us.

Does compassion allow for the compromise of convictions or the violation of God’s law?  Must empathy and understanding for the suffering and oppression of sinners lead to tolerance and affirmation?  Jesus shows us that love and compassion can be expressed in their fulness without transgressing God’s law.  The pharisees show us that when law is separated from love, both law and love are twisted to become tools for manipulation and oppression.
