In Matthew 5:21-26 Jesus tells us that if we’re at church worshipping and there remember that we’ve wronged someone, we should leave worship and go seek reconciliation with that person. Our relationship with God has everything to do with our relationships with our sisters and brothers. If we want to worship the God who reconciles we must be reconciled with one another.

This evening, on the eve before Christmas, we celebrated with a carol service of 9 lessons and carols. Paul led us to really consider the marvel of the Christmas story. Under the bow of our Advent service theme: “Surrounded by God and His Story”, Pastor Paul is preaching from Luke 1:39-56. During Advent we are taking time to really remember and prepare ourselves to believe that we are delivered through Christ and that He is our Great Deliverer. Today's passage reveals how the Holy Spirit blessed both Mary and Elizabeth and how they played a part in His Story. What is the Holy Spirit inviting us to do in order to be blessed and humbled?

Pastor Paul continues with the second part of the series: “Surrounded by God & His Story”. This second Sunday of Advent we focus on waiting for God and His promises… His deliverance. God always listens to our prayers, although God’s timeline is not always in sync with ours. God’s deliverance and justice will come; we only need to trust and prepare ourselves for the fulfillment of His promises while waiting.

This week is the first Sunday of Advent. As we enter this time of advent, Paul asked us to consider what is distracting or enticing us at this time? What is drawing us away from God that we are giving our life and effort to? Advent is a time of reminding - to bring our focus on God, His coming in Jesus and bringing hope to our lives. What are we going to focus on this advent time?
