Being part of Christ's body means we all belong, no matter how big or how small our gifts may seem. In fact, each of us is indispensable, so we must learn to discern and joyfully use our spiritual gifts to help the body grow and mature. You are a part of the body, but are ready to play your part?

Jesus envisions a powerful church where everybody receives gifts from the Holy Spirit to help them commune with God and connect God to others. But what are spiritual gifts? Are they really for everyone? And what about the ones that feel strange to us?

We will explore these questions and more in our new series, "Spiritual Gifts," but first we must build a foundation.

We begin in 1 Corinthians 12, where scripture teaches that gifts are supernatural capacities from the Holy Spirit given to reveal God’s presence, build the church, and bless the world. Listen now to learn more.

Paul closes his letter to Titus with a call to avoid divisive people and remind the church to devote themselves to doing good. Practical applications include supporting mission partners, contributing to the benevolence fund, and living as a generous, unified community that reflects God’s love to the world.

This Pentecost, one of our Community Leaders, Tam Tran, unpacks Titus 3:3–8. When God appears in Jesus, false hopes are confronted, ancient prayers are answered, and spiritual orphans becomes sons and daughters. As those who are now justified by grace and made heirs of eternal life, we respond to the goodness of God's appearance through baptism, confession, and a life of good works.

Christ has appeared, and he changed everything. Christ will come again, and end evil once and for all. But how should we as Christians live in unjust social systems and imperfect governments while we await Christ’s return? According to Titus, we must be honest about suffering, pursue holiness through the Spirit, and work for the common good with hope rooted in the resurrection.

Tinika Wyatt unpacks Titus 2:3–5, calling older believers to live reverently, avoid slander and drunkenness, and model and teach what is good so younger women can love their families and follow Christ. Staying close to him, through confession and prayer for one another, is how we live in spiritual overflow and pass faith and wisdom to future generations.

To become healthy disciples, we need those who have gone before us to show us the way. Paul gives Titus an urgent call to confront deceptive teachers in Crete, because they are destroying whole households with their false gospel. To confront the false gospels in our own time, we must become lovers of the truth who see through lies, shut the door on corrupting influences, and speak truth to restore those who have fallen away.

Elders are official church leaders who are recognized within their community, called by God, and appointed by fellow elders to cultivate Kingdom culture in local churches. They do this by managing God’s household, modeling God's ways, teaching God's word, and protecting God's people. But more important than what they do is what they smell like. And shepherds smell like sheep. 

The gospel of Jesus Christ confronts and corrects our culture to make it more like the kingdom of heaven. The letter to Titus is a classic example of this process at work: On the island of Crete is a young church struggling to live out Jesus' kingdom amidst their native cultural narratives and social norms, so Paul sends Titus to finish what remains unfinished. He must strengthen their faith, but also confront the false gods that drawing the church away from Jesus. If we invite Him, the Holy Spirit will use these Scriptures to do the same for us.
