In Luke 10:38-42, Jesus visits the home of Mary and Martha and Martha, as Jesus says to her, is “anxious and troubled by many’s things.” Listen in as we learn the invitation Jesus gives Martha, to partake in a “good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Fr. Michael preaches.

In Luke 9:57-62, we encounter three disciples who are not quite ready to follow Jesus. Listen in as Fr. Michael explores how we identify with each of these three would-be disciples and how Jesus calls us to deeper freedom.

In the liturgical calendar, Ordinary Time is focused on discipleship and working out our salvation. So on this second Sunday after Pentecost, Fr. Michael explores Jesus' call to follow Him from Luke 9:18-24 and why it's a fitting text to begin deepening our understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Christ.

For Pentecost Sunday, Fr. Michael unpacks Jesus' words in John 16 about the gift of the Holy Spirt, the One who will lead us into all truth.

Taking a break from the lectionary to address All Saints' season of sojourning, Fr. Michael points to Moses' call at the burning bush as a template for how we encounter God when we end up in a temporary space.

What is hope? And what does the theological virtue of hope have to do with the Holy Spirit? Fr. Michael unpacks an answer to these questions in this reflection on John 14:25.

On this Good Shepherd Sunday, Fr. Michael unpacks John 10:22-30 and what it means to be known by our Good Shepherd and how intimacy with Him gives us a secure base for moving out into a world of uncertainty and instability.

How do we respond to seemingly senseless pain and suffering? How should we comfort the broken-hearted? Job and his friends illustrate how to respond, and how not to respond, to pain and trauma. Job shows us that while we may not be able to bring sense or order to our suffering, God mercifully invites us into his presence and gives us himself. Rather than resignation to “It is what it is,” Job offers us “I AM who I AM.”

On this Easter Sunday, Fr. Michael uses Colossians 2:9-15 help us see the connection between the death and resurrection of our Lord and the "givenness" of the resurrected life we receive through baptism.

How do we enter Holy Week most fully? Fr. Michael looks the Gospel reading of the Passion of our Lord and pays special attention to how the crowd cried out for Jesus to be crucified--and what those cries have to do with us today.
