Following Jesus

Jesus tests our spiritual vision, exposes our misunderstandings, and clarifies our vision.

We all struggle to learn how to trust and follow Christ. In the gospel of Mark, the disciples were slow to learn. But Jesus is a patient teacher and reveals in this passage his ways with spiritually dull disciples.

We all have a sense of helplessness in life. The woman of Syrophoenicia sensed it when her daughter was possessed by a demon. She, and others, begged Christ to help. What she discovered was that God rewards faith (see Heb. 11:6).

It's easy to create our own traditions in place of God's Law, but Jesus shows us that true holiness is a matter of the heart.

Everyone needs a Shepherd and Jesus is the true Shepherd that we need.

We all have conflicts of conscience. Scriptures warn us to be prepared for such times. In Marks account of Herod's murder of John the Baptist he reveals a warning, encouragement and hope for the future which enables us to battle our conflicts of conscience.

Rejection of Jesus leads to rejection by Jesus, and acceptance of Jesus leads to commission by Jesus.
