  • Divorce: Ruling, In Islam/ Sisters Halaqa/Islamic Education For Women/ Fiqh Series/ ASHA

Divorce, although disliked, is permitted in Islam as a last resort, if it is not possible to continue a marriage. Allah SWT says: “Either you retain her on equitable terms, or separate from her with kindness” [Al- Baqara-229].  Certain steps need to be taken to ensure that all options have been exhausted! Allah gives divorce as an option because sometimes it is truly in the best interest of all concerned.  Nobody needs to remain in a situation that causes personal distress, pain, and suffering. Allah SWT says in the Quran: "The parties should either hold together on equitable terms or separate with kindness." (Surah al-Baqarah, 2:229)

      • Status Of Women Before And During The Age Of Islam

uJAAHILIYYAH: The period before Islam is known as the Jaahiliyyah period (literally it means the Period of Ignorance) which refers to the culture of all the nations of the world generally and in particular the culture of the Arabs, pre-Islam

women at this time generally lived oppressed lives, particularly in Arab society:

The birth of a girl for example was an unwelcome event- to the point where they used to bury their daughters alive.

Islam removes this oppression of women and returned to them their proper status of respect and dignity in Mankind.
