All-Star Superman

Welcome back to Waiting on the Trade, a monthly comics book club for people who don’t have time for monthly comics!

In this episode, Matt and Pat blaspheme just a little, as they take a look at Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, and Jamie Grant’s All-Star Superman.

The injured possum that my wife and I took in to the vet did NOT make it. Which is too bad; we were pulling for the little guy.

If you want to track Grant Morrison’s entire DC Chronology, from 1988’s Animal Man to 2018’s The Green Lantern, this seems like a solid reading order for the decades-long meta-story that All-Star is part of. I don’t know that I’d recommend reading all those books in that order, though.

Here’s that baller Christopher Reeve scene where he affects completely different personalities for Clark and Superman using just his voice and body posture. Frank Quitely does much the same thing to distinguish his Clark and Superman.

We DON’T TALK ABOUT All-Star Batman and Robin. We just don’t. We do, however, talk about Kal Kent.

I think this TV Tropes article is actually the best introduction to Superdickery.

Samson and Atlas HAVE shown up in DC Comics before, apparently.

There are multiple articles expounding upon the “Leo Quintum is Lex Luthor” theory, but none of them are all that convincing.
