Saul and his servants were searching for some

lost donkeys. They knew Samuel the prophet lived

in a village nearby, so they decided to go ask him

where the donkeys were. The night before, God

had told Samuel that Saul was coming.

Samuel gathered the people together so they

could dedicated themselves to God. The Philistines

thought this was an act of war, so they marched

into the land of Israel. The people were terrified.

of their god. The next morning, they found their

idol face down in front of the Ark. Suddenly the

city was overrun with mice, and people had large

tumors covering their bodies. “This is being caused

After losing 4,000 men in battle with the Philistines,

the elders of Israel had an idea. “We’ll take the Ark

of the Lord with us into battle, and it will give us

victory.” So they sent for the Ark of God, and the
