All The Young Dudes

The Marauders dedicate themselves to preparing Remus for his dangerous mission, spending every free moment in the library studying defensive spells and battle tactics. James sacrifices his beloved morning flying sessions to help train Remus, while Sirius works through his anxiety about the upcoming revelation to James. The chapter culminates in Sirius accidentally revealing their relationship when he comforts Remus, leading to James finally learning the truth about Wolfstar in a surprisingly accepting conversation.

Back at Hogwarts for his final term, Remus writes to his mother Hope, Grant, and Professor Ferox, taking the first steps toward reconnecting with his past. Dumbledore assigns Remus a dangerous mission to make contact with werewolves potentially in Hogsmeade, believing his unique nature makes him the best candidate. The revelation terrifies his friends, especially Sirius, who fears for Remus's safety. The chapter explores the weight of responsibility and the sacrifices required in wartime.

The aftermath of the Diagon Alley attack brings devastating news - fifty dead and hundreds wounded, including people they know. The Potters' house becomes a hub for Order activities, with Moody, Frank Longbottom, and other resistance members meeting regularly. Remus writes letters to his mother Hope, Grant, and Professor Ferox while grappling with the reality of war. The chapter ends with Remus receiving crucial intelligence that Professor Ferox was injured in the attack but is recovering.

During a Boxing Day trip to Diagon Alley, Death Eaters launch a devastating attack that leaves the area in ruins. Remus freezes in terror during the chaos, while his friends struggle to survive the explosions and battle. Ministry official Amos interrogates the group afterward, showing particular suspicion toward Sirius due to his Black family name. The attack leaves Remus feeling ashamed of his inability to act, though his friends reassure him that fear was natural in such circumstances.

The December 1977 full moon falls on Christmas Day, forcing the Marauders to stay at Hogwarts while Lily goes home. The cheerless holiday is overshadowed by tension and Remus's guilt about keeping his friends from their families. After the transformation, Sirius reveals he plans to tell James about their relationship over the holidays. At the Potters', Remus learns about his mother Hope from Mrs. Potter, who knew her when they were both pregnant, and receives her current address from Mr. Potter.

After Sirius's eighteenth birthday party on November 4th ends at 2 AM, Remus and Sirius argue about not spending enough time together due to keeping their relationship secret. On November 26th, Remus and Christopher encounter supernatural darkness in a castle corridor where a boggart has been deliberately placed, appearing first as a rotting corpse to Christopher and then as a full moon to Remus. After defeating it with Riddikulus, Remus uses the Marauder's Map to discover Regulus Black, Barty Crouch Jr, and Garrick Mulciber were waiting on the other side as proof they planted the boggart as a trap.

Sirius shows up at exactly the right moment during an incident, though Remus is too relieved at the time to question whether it was coincidence. Sirius acts very friendly toward Christopher, and Remus doesn't want to start an argument by bringing up whatever was wrong that morning. Lily comments about someone still being allowed to be a prefect despite their behavior.

On Friday September 9th, 1977, Remus studies intensely with Christopher for NEWTs while Sirius jealously joins the study group. During a Hogsmeade trip for quill shopping, Lily and Mary tease Remus about Christopher possibly fancying him, making Sirius defensive. In the village, Regulus Black and Barty Crouch Jr. harass Christopher and Remus with homophobic slurs, leading to a wand confrontation where Sirius appears to defend them and faces off against his brother Regulus.

James appears with a prominent black eye from his fight with Regulus on the train. In private, James explains that Regulus and his Slytherin friends confronted him about Lily Evans being Head Girl, using anti-Muggleborn slurs. The situation highlights the growing divide between Sirius and his brother as Regulus becomes more deeply involved with pure-blood supremacist ideology and Death Eater sympathizers at Hogwarts.

Remus wakes up in the squat with Grant, who is feeling better after magical healing. They help Grant get to Brighton by giving him money for the train fare and seeing him off at Victoria Station with promises to stay in touch. Remus and Sirius then rush to King's Cross and barely catch the Hogwarts Express where James is now Head Boy with Lily. Mary reveals that James and Regulus got into a physical fight in the prefects' carriage, and Regulus arrives late to the sorting ceremony looking pale and tired.
