Biking behind someone on a skateboard and an electric unicycle on a local Street Bikeway (LSB) in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Canada. Bike infrastructure isn't just about bikes.
Video taken during the Kjipuktuk/Halifax Pride Bike Ride held in July 2022.
A short video of a recyling truck driver making an illegal left turn through an intersection that forms part of Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia's supposedly AAA bicycle network. This intersection has signs that restrict drivers from making left or right turns that would conflict with cyclists going straight over to the next inadequate segment of the bike newtork but without physical barriers, drivers continue to do so.
There's never a dull moment on my bike commute in Halifax/Kjipuktuk. In this short clip, a driver failed to stop at a stop sign and was almost hit by a bus. The bus driver laid on the horn to express their frustration at this clear example of dangerous driving.
A before and after clip of a local street bikeway intersection in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia. In the 'before' clip, a driver is in the bike lane and turning left, ignoring the 'right turn only' signs for drivers. In the 'after' clip, flexiposts mark the bike lane and a driver in the 'right turn only' lane, turns left, ignoring the 'right turn only' signs for drivers. Progress!
The I Light HFX ride is a Critical Mass ride in Kjipuktuk/Halifax where riders celebrate the darker nights and raise awareness and funds for bike lights to be given out to people who need them. It's hosted by the Halifax Cycling Coalition and for the November 2022 ride, I took E.T. out for a spin on my Tern HSD P9 rack.
A video from a cyclist's POV approaching a 4-way intersection of a local street bikeway in Kjipuktuk/Halifax. A driver approaches the intersection from right to left and fails to stop at the Stop sign. It's the summer holidays, otherwise this intersection would have children crossing to reach a local school, as indicated by the Children Crossing sign to the right of the intersection.
Video shows a Canada Post worker push the button to activate the flashing lights at a crosswalk in Kijipuktuk/Halifax. Drivers approaching from either direction ignore or don't notice the flashing lights and blow right through. Both drivers had time to stop. POV is from the bike lane.
The May '24 Critical Mass ride in Halifax/Kjipuktuk was joined by three young riders who upped the #BikeJoy quotient a few notches more. They jumped around like jack rabbits and did wheelies. Love to see it!
While waiting to cross Quinpool Road to the Vernon Local Street Bikeway (LSB) in Halifax/Kjipuktuk, I witnessed two drivers blowing through a red light. The video clearly shows the drivers who turned onto the LSB proceeding through a red light, while the pedestrian walk sign was activated alongside the green light for traffic going straight. Imagine the revenue if Halifax installed red light cameras?
