All Villa No Filler - An Aston Villa Podcast

John 'Dixie' Deehan grew up an Aston Villa fan and got to live the dream of every Holte Ender by wearing the Claret & Blue jersey and scoring goals for his boyhood team. From 1975-79, John was part of a famous attacking force alongside the brilliant Andy Gray and Brian Little and eventually returned to Villa as assistant manager in 2001. He scored more than 50 goals during his time at the club and won the 1977 League Cup.

In our interview, John describes growing up an Aston Villa fan, getting scouted and making his first team debut at the age of 18. John vividly recalls playing for the great Ron Saunders and sharing goals with Gray and Little. There are also recollections of Villa's famous 5-1 win over a then mighty Liverpool side, winning the League Cup in dramatic fashion against Everton, scoring a late equaliser in front of the Holte against Johan Cruyff's Barcelona and being forced to escape as Rangers fans invaded the pitch at Villa Park.

A must-listen for anyone who supports Villa!

The transfer window has shut after a summer where numerous new players joined Aston Villa and one major name left. Although Villa lost their talisman Jack Grealish to Man City, they invested heavily in the attacking areas, with the likes Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings joining for big fees. Both Axel Tuanzebe and the versatile Ashley Young rejoined Villa, too.

The question now is whether Villa have done enough? What is the overall aim for this season? Did the club miss out by not signing another CDM, or does it provide the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka and Jacob Ramsey more room to grow as players?

We're joined by Holtecast contributor and lifelong Villa fan, Tom Nightingale, to talk over this summer's transfers and what Villa can now aim for going forward.

Two lifelong Aston Villa fans take a light-hearted look at the highs & lows of supporting the world's best football team.

Argentine playmaker Emi Buendia scored his first goal for the club with a lovely curling effort, but Villa could only go on and draw 1-1 against newly promoted Brentford. George & Frankie look at the numerous circumstances that have gone against Villa and Dean Smith early this season, primarily COVID disruption, a lengthy injury list and new signings needing time to bed in with each other.

In the 'Spicy Question' feature, they also ask who Villa's most impressive new signing has been. Danny Ings has got off to a flier with two goals, but Ashley Young has also proven his invaluable experience and versatility.

It was a day to forget for Villa on the opening day of the season with a 3-2 away defeat to Watford. George & Frankie look at what went wrong & talk on what Villa can do to solve some of the issues that emerged, particularly in a terrible first-half display. There were some positives though, particularly the debut performance of Leon Bailey.

They also focus on who they would like to realistically sign with a 'Spicy Question' feature, and also look ahead to the club's long-awaited return to Villa Park on Saturday, when Villa take on Newcastle.

Aston Villa made a number of signings over the summer and one of the most eye-catching names to arrive at Villa Park was Leon Bailey.

The Jamaican international was signed from German side Bayer Leverkusen for around £30 million and proves Villa are capable of attracting leading names in football.

Unlike Villa's other summer signings, Bailey has never played in the Premier League, so we spoke to German Football Expert, DW reporter and Leverkusen fan Max Merrill to find out more about what Villa fans and Dean Smith can expect from their new man.

A new season is upon us! With Jack Grealish now off up north and a range of new signings turning up at Villa Park, George and Frankie look ahead to an upcoming season filled with mystery and intrigue.

There's signs of optimism for Villa, particularly with the emergence of young talents like Carney Chukwuemeka and Jaden Philogene-Bidace, as well as exciting new players including Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey, Danny Ings, Ashley Young and Axel Tuanzebe. But will it take the team a while to adapt with Grealish out the door and a disrupted pre-season? And how will the team set-up this season?

George & Frankie predict where they think Villa will finish in the league table, who the breakout stars might be, the maddest thing to happen this season will be, and what else will happen in the Premier League.

They also talk about the season opener at Watford where Villa will go up against an old nemesis in the shape of Troy Deeney.

Two lifelong Aston Villa fans from Birmingham take a light-hearted look at the highs & lows of supporting the world's best football team.

Will Jack Grealish stay or will he go? George and Frankie have an impassioned talk about why Super Jack should stick with the project being pursued by NSWE at Villa Park.

Whilst understandable that an individual of Grealish's quality would want to play Champions League football, our hosts make the case that Villa are on track to reach that level and can also compete for trophies this season. With an ever improving first team, the country's best youth set-up, serious owners and more exciting signings to come, we believe now is not the time for anyone to leave.

Frankie also makes the case it is time for Aston Villa to look at the northern powerhouse clubs who have taken some of our best players over the years and finally stop that trend and aim to knock them off their perch. If clubs like Atletico Madrid and Spurs, once seen as 'nearly clubs', can make the Champions League final, why can't we dare to dream?

Come on Super Jack! Stick with your lifelong club.
