It is taking some time for Jason to really understand the full extent of which his being trans impacted his entire life, but one of the biggest eye openers was learning to recognize the trauma that simply goes with the trans experience. From the earliest memories of shaming or not being seen, to dysphoria, to shifting or losing relationships after coming out...life as a trans person is not easy and much of goes with it has a direct negative impact on one's mental health and outlook.  Trust and intimacy issues can become paralyzing and close you off from your entire world. This leads to "ultra-independence" and not knowing how to ask for help.

Jason brings back another season of Allow Me to Trans-late opening with an episode explaining just why he is so open about his gender and experiences. Often times people are shocked to find someone so open and other times people assume it is for private conversations only. After moving to a new apartment Jason shares his outlook of what's to come. He explains why he moved and the perks that were hidden within. Welcome to this week's guest, Phillip Santiago! Phillip joins us from California to share more of his experience as a black transman doing his thing and rocking his beloved beard. He is the first openly transgender brand ambassador for Maestro's Classic, a Beard Care Product Brand. Coming out about 10 years ago means he has been living as a man, essentially stealth, for quite a while now. Working as a writer for studios like Warner Bros, Phillip is a great example of a strong transman who is driven to not let his gender hold him back.  Listen in to hear more from this laidback, insightful, and funny man.

This week Jason looks back at the differences between Theresa and Jason and tries to help listeners get a clearer picture of who Theresa Soules was and how Jason feels about her now.  He shares many memories and qualities about his former self that he either sees differently now or that help explain struggles of the past.  Many people don't realize just how complicated the relationship trans folks have with their former identity and how that relationship shifts over time.

Joined by Mrs. Lauren Lierman, this week's discussion is about teaching the new generation. Jason and Lauren share a conversation about what teaching LGBTQ+ youth is like and talk about the teacher's role in advocacy and ultimately ensuring the best learning environment for all students.  As a cisgender teacher herself, Lauren is passionate about doing everything she can for the LGBTQ+ students in her music classes. Offering a new perspective and sharing more classroom experiences, this episode hopes to shed light on the complexity of creating change and obstacles that come along. It is not meant to be a how-to workshop or teaching training, but more an open conversation. Teachers have such an impact and can no longer encourage stereotypes or silence their students. We need teachers and administrators who understand their role in the fight for equality.

This week Jason shares more about his decision to take a break from hormone therapy and the struggle to get back on testosterone. From the specifics of why he stoppwd to what actually changed after nearly 6 months with no hormones.  Jason explains a bit more of his personal journey in this shorter episode to hopefully show how complex our hormones really are.

Ann Hoeppner was terrified to come out at age 54 by telling her wife "it's time to tell you about the other woman in my life....me." She had already begun hormones and was contemplating suicide if her wife wasn't on board. However, almost 20 years later they are still together, she's thriving as a woman, and here to share her story. The 73 year old former insurance agent, now does electrolysis for cis and trans folks. She's hilarious and open and someone you wanna meet! Tune in to find out more about Ann. She is proof that it's never too late to be who you truly are!
