Andrew is a member of one of the most traditional New Zealand families who settled in the Coromandel many years ago. He started cooking in 1985 and went to cooking school in 1988. 

Andrew worked for many restaurants in the Coromandel and helped to get some of them started. He spent 16 years working in Auckland, and in 2020 decided to cross the ditch and start new adventures in Australia.

We welcome Andrew to chat about the food and hospitality industry, why so many kiwis move to Australia, driving in the desert at 130km/h to get to work, wild animals and much more!

Pete’s social media ‘The Flying Kiwi’ is full of incredible shots of the Coromandel and New Zealand coastal landscape. Those are not only epic aerial images but an extension of his soul. They represent how he feels about Aotearoa. He’s a creative guy; buying a drone in Germany many years ago and strapping an SLR camera to it to see what would happen proves that.

Pete travelled the world before having kids. He worked in online marketing and design in London and returned home to push himself to improve his photography and video skills. He filmed TV shows on Māori TV and even managed to direct an episode in Whitianga.

He is passionate about māori language, culture and its connection to nature. The ocean is the place where Pete finds peace. Training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also helps with that!

 Deli is an experienced Educational Consultant with a history of working in the education management industry. She has more than 20 years of experience working with international students and adults both diplomatically and in the English as a Second Language field.

 Deli is passionate about people and focuses on working towards an equal society. Sustainability and global citizenship are hot topics for her. Among many projects she is involved with, Deli volunteers to build desalination plants in Vanuatu's outer island.

 She was part of the Mercury Bay Community Board Member for three terms and is currently a Thames-Coromandel District councillor. Politics suit her as an articulate speaker. She doesn't back down from a robust debate when representing something or someone she believes in.

 Tony was born in Auckland, grew up in Christchurch, lived in the Cook Islands for seven years, and now he escapes the rat race living in the Coromandel. 

 Tony is an active man. Currently a contractor to NZ Police (Auckland Maritime) as a Fleet Maintenance controller/engineer responsible for continued seaworthiness and preventative maintenance for the Auckland-based Police vessels and ancillary equipment. Tony also provides services to the NZ Defence Force Defence Logistics Command (Maritime) as a Senior ILS Engineer (Navy). Negotiator on behalf of Royal New Zealand Navy.

 Tony is also a skipper in the Warfish Marine Charters as an Inshore/offshore fishing, Diving, and passenger charter operator. Amon, many of his responsibilities are teaching new anglers of all ages and capabilities how to fish sustainably and safely.

 Tony appreciates people who give some of their time to help others. He does his part as an NZ Coast Guard volunteer.

 Tony served and worked for the NZ military and navy and travelled to many places worldwide.

Azzie is 32. He has been in a wheelchair since he was 3 due to Giant Azonal Neuropathy, a rare degenerative motor neurone disease. This condition does not stop Azzie from being an active man; he is a foodie, dancer, circus performer and also plays wheelchair basketball and rugby.

Azzie opposes pharmaceuticals and praises natural medicine naturopathy. He finds the connection with nature quite healing.

The Ministry of Health provides Azzie a wheelchair that supports mobility only around his home.  Recently, Azzie’s neighbour set up a give a little page that put almost $6k together for a powered up wheelchair that will support Azzie’s outdoors life. ACC in New Zealand covers electric chairs for people who have been in accidents, which is not Azzie’s case.

Azzie is sharp and loves to talk about human behaviour, our vices, virtues and desisres.

Stu is a musician, writer and performer who grew up in Fielding, spent most of his life in Wellington and has been in the beautiful Coromandel for nine years. He studied philosophy and literature, and is also a librarian.

Stu goes to bed with music. He mixes it with his coffee for breakfast and then also has it for lunch and dinner. 

‘Eclectic in style’ is a good way to describe the music of Stewart Pedley. Over the course of 30 or so years of performing, he has drawn from a wide range of influences - from rock to folk, to New Orleans groove, to blues and punk and jazz - and has thrown them together to create a distinctive voice in songwriting. Front and centre of his music, always, is an attention to lyrics and a good knack for storytelling.

Stewart is based in Coromandel, New Zealand, and performs solo, as half of the Brazilian-Kiwi duo Let’s Go Descarrego!, and in the punk-rock band Corrosive Moses. He has recently released an EP by Stewart Pedley & The Sinners, titled Charlie Watts’ Shaving Kit. In 2014 he won the Best Original Song Competition.

Ben Brown is a professional Kayaker and owner of the successful Built to Fish TV. He was New Zealand's first Red Bull athlete, a partnership that lasted for 18 years and allowed him to kayak worldwide while improving his filmmaking skills.

He is passionate about cinematography and fishing. Ben was one of the first people to shoot with a Go Pro, creating an epic video that made the company want to buy his material. Those images ended up at the halftime break of the Super Bowl in the USA.

Ben brings a unique approach to creating online fishing content because of his filming background rather than a fishing background. His videos are often shot at breathtaking sceneries. 

He comes to the Altbays Show to chat about his journey as an influential sportsperson and now as a content creator.

Jani Dennis is a music teacher, music group organiser, and performing and recording artist. Paul Lee has been a professional musician for 30 years. Backing singers such as Al Hunter, Josie Rika, Tommy Fergusson, and Sonny Day. He is a teacher, writer, recording, performing artist, and creative producer.

Together, they form Soul Sax Plus, a New Zealand saxophone duo featuring tenor and soprano sax, vocals, synthesisers, keyboards, tenor recorder, clarinet, alto flute, percussion and original sequenced backings.

Many people from all over Aotearoa had the privilege of learning music from this fantastic and talented couple. They love their extensive garden and 'alternative' lifestyle. 

Paul and Jenni are also the driving force behind the Mercury Bay Big Band, bringing together young and senior musicians to play classic tunes.

Tony grew up and lived in Maramarua until he was 21.

He left school at the end of 1969 without academic qualifications but scored a mechanics apprenticeship with the NZ Forest Service.

He moved places and managed many workshops until the Labour government sold off all their Forests, and he was made redundant in 1989. This led Tony to become a jack of all trades. He says he had more jobs than most of us have had Christmas dinners! Most of the jobs he had were in sales, repping and managing. His experience in the bush facilitated a hunting guiding job.

Tony knows a lot about NZ bush. He identifies plants and knows what they are suitable for, knowledge that, unfortunately, not many have nowadays.

He comes to the Altbays Show to share stories about being out there in nature and the importance of adaptability.

 Anusha and Dave are a talented, inspiring and creative couple. 

 Anusha grew up in Auckland. She is a huge music fan, a passionate social justice advocate and a sometimes artist. Her business, Korimako Creative, encompasses all the different services she enjoys providing; event management, writing, marketing, communications planning and designing. She loves planning, coming up with bold and creative ideas and making them happen. 

Currently, Anusha works with not-for-profits, charities, and for-purpose organisations/projects.

 Dave has 25 years of recording, production, performing, and studio management experience.

 In 2019, he was Studio Manager at Depot Sound Recording Studio in Devonport. Before this, he spent eight years working at Stebbing Recording Studios, where he learnt from some of New Zealand’s top engineers and recorded music for Six60, Topp Twins, Hollie Smith, John Rowles, Shane, and many more. Back in the ‘90s and into the mid 2000s, he spent nine years working for Pagan/Antenna records, where he made NZ music radio programs for commercial radio while working alongside Tadpole, Darcy Clay, Pluto, Voom and other bands on the label. During this time, he also recorded bands at York Street and The Lab, including Blindspott, Stylus, These Four Walls, and others.
