The main topic however is the Spike Lee classic, School Daze. Rarely is there a movie that Chris has seen that Tyler hasn't, but in this case Tyler had to do some homework. From the Divine 9 to colorism and beyond, Chris and Tyler break down School Daze and reflect on the movie.

On March 18th, 2019 the Alternative Blacks podcast released its first episode on SoundCloud. Now, a year later we are on all major podcast platforms and are WAY ahead of where we thought we would be. We will continue to do our best to deliver episodes every other week that touch upon craft beer, diversity and inclusion, growing up biracial, music, media, sports and everything in between.

Chris and Tyler take a look at the complex topic of code-switching. From dictionary definitions, to workplace environments and dealing with code-switching as bi-racial individuals, they attempt to tackle the whole issue.

• Jack Abbey's Eis Maker barley wine
  • Eis is the German word for Ice.  A former distillation process in making Eis Beer would be to freeze it, remove the ice, and collect what remained.
    While today’s beer, like Eis Maker, is no longer produced this way, it is used as a connotation that the beer is very strong.
    You will find this Eis Bock to be sweet, malty and boozy with notes of raisin, dark fruit and similar profile of a barley wine.

What is code-switching?

• Dictionary definition:
  • Linguistics. the alternating or mixed use of two or more languages, especially within the same discourse:
  • Sociolinguistics. the use of one dialect, register, accent, or language variety over another, depending on social or cultural context, to project a specific identity:
  • the modifying of one's behavior, appearance, etc., to adapt to different sociocultural norms
