On this 24th day of June, the Church calls us to celebrate the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, whose birth marks the the near approach of the Messiah, and whose ministry prepares the way for the coming of the King of kings.

Tomorrow, June 24, marks the celebration of the Feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist, and, in preparation for this great Feast, we are called to the Vigil of St. John the Baptist, in which we begin to prepare our hearts to receive the Forerunner, who will prepare the way for the Messiah. Upon this Vigil, we hear a Homily by St. Ambrose the Bishop.

The Feast of St. Alban is celebrated upon the day of his holy martyrdom, June 22. That we may enter into the joy of this feast, hear the record of his life and death, for in it we see a manifestation of the transforming and sustaining power of the grace of God. Let us learn what it means to follow Christ by learning the way that St. Alban walked.

Each year, the church calls us to remember the Holy Martyrdom of St. Alban, who, though he was but a new Christian, followed in the way of the Cross of Christ all the way to his death. Let us remember and let us celebrate the grace of God that was at work in him, and let us live out this same grace that is give to all those who travel in the way of the cross.
